<p>Police in Texas say an El Paso couple, both lawyers who worked for the Texas Attorney General&#8217;s Office handling child support enforcement cases were the intended victims of a shooting in their home which left the wife dead and the husband critically injured.<br>Assistant attorney general Georgette &#8216;Gigi&#8217; Kaufman, 50, and her husband Daniel L. Kaufman, 47, who is also an attorney were shot at their home in El Paso&#8217;s Manhattan Heights neighborhood on November 14 at about 7.35pm. <br>The shooting occurred one day after the couple celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary, left Georgette dead at the rear of the Kaufman home where she was found by police, while Daniel was found wounded at a neighbor&#8217;s house, the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.elpasotimes.com/story/news/crime/2020/11/18/el-paso-shooting-murder-lawyer-couple-daniel-gigi-kaufmann/6325439002/">El Paso Times</a> reported. <br>Daniel, who was shot multiple times, was taken to the hospital for treatment. </p>

<p>Police said in a <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.elpasotexas.gov/~/media/files/coep/police%20department/press%20releases/20/20-319130%20murder%20on%20copper.ashx">statement</a> Wednesday described Daniel Kaufman&#8217;s condition as &#8216;critical but stable&#8217;. <br>The couple&#8217;s 16-year-old son was not at home at the time of the shooting, because he was away at a at a fencing tournament in Dallas at the time, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://kvia.com/news/crime/2020/11/14/several-people-believed-shot-as-gunfire-rings-out-in-central-el-paso/">KVIA</a> reported. He has been staying with a relative since he returned to El Paso on Sunday. <br>The police statement notes that there was &#8216;no indication at present time that any other person was the intended victim of this crime.&#8217;<br>No arrests have been made in the shooting and police have not released any information about a suspect or a possible motive.</p>

<p>The Texas Attorney General&#8217;s Office said that Georgette Kaufmann, also known as Georgette Garcia-Kaufman, had been an assistant attorney general with the Office of Attorney General Child Support Division in El Paso since 2013. <br>A spokesman with the office told the El Paso Times that Georgette had worked on court cases involving the establishment and enforcement of child support.<br>Daniel Kaufman previously was an assistant attorney general with the office&#8217;s child support division from 2010 to 2014 and from 2016 to May 2019.<br>He was then hired by El Paso County, where he is now an attorney for the El Paso Domestic Relations Office, handling child support enforcement cases.<br>In addition, Kaufmann also practices as a family law attorney, handling divorce and child custody cases, among other issues. <br>Georgette&#8217;s death is now the second death that occurred at the Kaufman home. </p>

<p><br>In November 2018, Javier Tellez Jr., 28, bled to death after he cut his arms on window glass while breaking into their home. <br>The Kaufmans called police when they saw blood and the broken window and officers found Tellez dead inside their home. <br></p>
