Three men stole more than $1.76million from an armored car parked outside an Atlantic City casino earlier this month according to authorities who described the heist as ‘something out of the 1930s’.
One of them, Dante J McCluney, has been identified as a former employee of the Rapid Armored Corporation and the identities of his two accomplices have been revealed as well, but they are yet to be taken into custody.
McCluney, 35, of Newark has been charged with burglary, theft and conspiracy in connection with the November 5 theft from an armored car parked outside Bally’s casino, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said Tuesday.
Officials say McCluney used to work for the armored car company as an armed guard, and used his insider knowledge to carry out the heist.
‘This was a brazen burglary of an armored car on a public street in broad daylight,’ Tyner said.
‘Out of all the crimes I’ve seen committed in Atlantic County during my tenure, this incident harkened back to something out of the 1930s.’

Surveillance video from just outside the casino allegedly showed McCluney and two other men steal $1.76million in cash from an armored truck.
The video reportedly shows three men walking up to the armored car, remained there until about 12:15 am and then entering it to remove what appeared to be “bags of cash”.
The police responded after the casino Bally’s reported that $1,760,000 was stolen from the Rapid Armored Transportation vehicle parked outside their building.
The suspects then got into a gray Hyundai sedan and drove away.
McCluney was previously employed by Rapid Armored as an armed guard where he worked the run that serviced Bally’s and became familiar with its timing and procedures, the prosecutor said.
Two employees of the armored car company identified McCluney from other video footage shot from the Boardwalk that shows him and the two others driving up in the same Hyundai, parking near the armored car and walking toward it.
Authorities said McCluney knew the timing and the route which the truck used to service Bally’s
