Kewon Dontrell White, 22, faces a murder charge in connection with the Nov. 11 death of 28-year-old Melvin Noble, aka Mo3, who was gunned down on Interstate 35E near the Dallas Zoo.
White is in federal custody, police said. He was indicted Tuesday on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, federal court records show.
Noble was driving on Interstate 35E close to Dallas Zoo in Texas when he was shot.
Dallas Police said a suspect got out of a black, Chevy Camaro armed with a gun and began approaching the victim’s vehicle.
Noble, 28, ran away from his car but the gunman followed him and shot him on the back of his head, according to reports.
Mo3 was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The musician was on his way to a movie set when he was shot, his manager, Brandon Rainwater told a local CBS affiliate.

An arrest-warrant affidavit for White on the murder charge provides little insight into how police connected him to Noble’s slaying. The document says a witness spoke with police about White’s involvement after police publicly released images showing the moments before the shooting.
In the photos, the gunman is wearing a ski mask.

The affidavit says that police also obtained evidence that placed White in Noble’s vicinity before and during the shooting and that video police obtained of the suspect matches White’s physical description

Police had said previously that the gunman and Noble were traveling north on the interstate in separate vehicles when they stopped near Clarendon Drive and the attacker approached Noble’s vehicle.
Noble then got out of his car, and the gunman chased him down, shooting at him repeatedly.
Another man was wounded in the shooting, police said at the time.
Dallas police Chief U. Renee Hall has said the department requested help from the FBI in investigating a surge in violence the weekend following MO3′s death.

At the time of the slaying, the suspect, White, was free on bond on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and a misdemeanor charge of evading arrest in Dallas County.
For the firearm charge, White’s bail was set at $3,500, court records show. His bail was set at $1,000 for the charge of evading arrest.
Details about those cases weren’t immediately available. Court records show the charges stem from an Aug. 16 arrest, and the same date is listed for the federal unlawful firearm possession charge.

Dallas County court and jail records also showed he faced an aggravated assault charge out of Denton County. Details about that case weren’t immediately available, but court records show a Dallas County magistrate set White’s bail at $25,000 for the assault charge.
Court records show White had previously been sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of evading Lancaster officers in a stolen vehicle.
In two separate incidents, he also received 18-month sentences for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. A judge ordered all of the sentences to be served concurrently.
