An animal rights attorney from Colorado is alleged to have attempted to hire a hitman to kill her estranged husband’s girlfriend. The target had been the family’s au pair. 
According to an affidaviti filed Jan. 25 by the Jefferson County Sherff’s Office, she tried to hire a former sniper and a ranch hand to kill her estranged husband’s new girlfriend and others as part of a year-long campaign of harassment, stalking and threats, authorities alleged in a 33-page affidavit.
Jennifer Edwards,  also known by her married name,  Jennifer Emmi, 43, had been locked in a divorce battle with her estranged husband, Donald T. “Donnie” Emmi, when she allegedly attempted to have his girlfriend murdered. 
She is alleged to have asked ranch hand, 28-year-old Timothy Lindsey, to help kill the woman in November.

According to 9 News in Denver,  since January 2020,  Jennifer Emmi Edwards has been charged with 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors in five felony cases.  Held in the Jefferson County Jail,  she was next due in court on the most recent murder-for-hire arrest case, on February 26,  2021.
The murder-for-hire arrest followed a six-month investigation by the sheriff’s office that involved undercover meetings, blackmail and extortion attempts.

Jennifer Emmi had been locked in a divorce battle with her estranged husband, Donald T. “Donnie” Emmi, [photo], when she allegedly attempted to have his girlfriend murdered. 

According to the affidavit,  Jennifer Emmi Edwards had solicited “multiple people to murder,  harass,  surveil and retaliate against her estranged husband,  her husband’s girlfriend,  and other witnesses and victims,” in cases in which she was previously charged with 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors.
Donald Emmi is described as “a recognized expert in banking for the cannabis industry,” who was instrumental in building the nation’s first cannabis transaction escrow company and has been a strategic and legal advisor on more than $100 million in cannabis transactions, mergers and acquisitions.
The divorce of Edwards and her former husband Donald T. Emmi was reportedly completed on February 3, 2021, after more than a year in court.
During the divorce Jennifer Emmi Edwards the court heard, told several people that her estranged husband and his girlfriend had kidnapped, brainwashed and abused [their children] as part of a plot to frame her.
Early in November Donald Emmi informed police of the existence of a recording of a phone call in which his estranged wife was shopping for an assassin to kill his girlfriend, according to the affidavit.
She was allegedly recorded in a series of telephone calls asking if Lindsey knew anyone who could ‘get rid’ of the woman she saw as her love rival.
She is said to have provided the girlfriend’s name and workplace, the affidavit states.

Lindsey ‘played along’ telling Emmi it would cost her about $100,000.
The pair are also alleged to have discussed whether the killing should happen at his Evergreen ranch or somewhere else. 
‘Jennifer responded that the money would not be a problem,’ Lindsey told investigators, according to CBS4 reported.
The suspect is alleged to have suggested that both the au pair and her husband could be killed because, ‘if there was a car accident or something, no one would know,’ according to the affidavit, then later said the plan was ‘on hold. 
The ranch hand said he believed the animal rights attorney was serious. 
When investigators accessed hers computer, they say she had searched for ‘how to get rid of the other woman for good.’

The murder-for-hire arrest followed a six-month investigation by the sheriff’s office that involved undercover meetings, blackmail and extortion attempts, a 67-year-old man who was Jennifer Emmi’s “financial backer” and numerous attempts by she madei to manipulate her estranged husband and his girlfriend, who had been the family’s au pair.
The latest charges are in addition to 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors that allege domestic violence, retaliation against witnesses and attempts to influence public servants over the last year.
In at least one of her previous cases, the bond was paid by the 67-year-old man who lives at a neighboring ranch in Evergreen. According to the affidavit, he cared for Emmi, had a “special interest” in her and provided significant financial help.

Attorney Colin Bresee, who has represented Emmi in the past, said Monday he hasn’t seen any evidence in the case but that the allegations are based largely on Emmi’s conversations. His client is being held in the Jefferson County jail on a $3 million cash bond that she must post herself


Jennifer Emmi Edwards also allegedly weighed the possibility that she would have both her husband and his girlfriend killed.
‘if there was a car accident or something, no one would know,’ according to the Denver Post.
After the supposed ‘hitman’, contacted Emmi’s estranged husband and authorities, the sheriff’s office opened a sting operation.
The six-month investigation included undercover meetings, blackmail and extortion attempts before finally Jennifer Emmi Edwaards was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County jail, where she’s being held on on a $3 million cash bond that she must post herself
Her defense attorney, Colin Bresee, has argued that the police evidence suggests his client did not plan to go through with the plot.
‘The allegations, at least the way the warrant reads, is she’s understandably upset,’ Bresee told news station KDVR.

‘She finds out that after sacrificing her body and had three beautiful kids that her husband literally traded her in for a much younger girl.
‘It’s not unusual for someone whose husband is having an affair with the au pair to be upset and mad,’ Bresee said to the Denver Post.
The line of saying how mad you are and how enraged you are and saying it to other people — it seems odd one of them was then a confidential informant who was working with police.’ 
The affidavit also alleges Jennifer Emmi Edwards also researched witnesses, judges, prosecutors and investigators involved in her case, sometimes keeping handwritten notes with personal information on those people and their families. 
She also researched whether law enforcement could track her phone and bought devices meant to block tracking.

Her estranged husband and his girlfriend have told investigators they live in constant fear due to domestic violence incidents with the family, including the three children, having to go into hiding.

Over the last year, Emmi has been charged with 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors for alleged domestic violence, retaliation against witnesses and attempts to influence public servants. The charges are all still outstanding.  
The estranged couple had been separated and were going through divorce proceedings. According to the affidavit Jennifer Emmi Edwards has been diagnosed with a mental health disorder.
She is accused of engaging in a pattern of harassment and stalking dating back to January 2019, when her husband said he caught her cheating and stated his intention to divorce.
He backed off on a divorce, court documents stated after she claimed multiple medical issues, none of which could be verified. They had since separated and shared custody of their children, according to court documents.
Recorded incidents of violent abuse by Jennifer Emmi include threatening to kill the children on several occassions, strangling one of the children when the child tried to call her father for help out of concern for her erratic behavior on another occassion.
According to the affidavit, in one instance Jennifer allegedly, held a knife to her husband’s throat at a family birthday celebration.
