<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A Metropolitan police officer was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder in the disappearance of a woman who went missing last week on her way home in South London. A day later, human remains were found.<br>Sarah Everard, a 33-year-old marketing executive, was last seen leaving a friend’s house in Clapham around 9 p.m. on March 3, according to police. She never made it home.<br>In the last week, hundreds of police officers searched more than 750 houses in South London area, a woodland area and a property in Kent, according to police.<br>On Tuesday night the suspect, a Metropolitan Police officer, who worked in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, charges which were upgraded Wednesday to murder.<br>Pc. Couzens was also questioned about a separate allegation of indecent exposure. While executing the arrest warrant, police arrested a 39-year-old woman at the home. She was detained and question on the suspicion of assisting an offender.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On Wednesday, investigators searching a woodland area in Ashford, Kent, found human remains assumed to be Everard, though not confirmed<br>On Thursday however, murder suspect Wayne Couzens was rushed to hospital with head injuries after he’s found collapsed in cell. The married father-of-two was taken to hospital with a police guard mounted at the hospital following the shocking incident at Wandsworth police station, South West London.<br>A police source said that Couzens “was found unconscious in his cell with head injuries.<br>“The custody officers rushed in and gave him immediate first aid and he was taken to hospital.<br>“It caused a hell of a panic and serious questions are being asked over how it happened.&#8221; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“The news today that it was a Metropolitan Police officer arrested on suspicion of Sarah’s murder has sent waves of shock and anger through the public and through the whole of the Met,” Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said in a statement Wednesday.<br>“I speak on behalf of all my colleagues in the Met when I say we are utterly appalled at this dreadful news. Our job is to patrol the streets and to protect people.”<br>Dick urged Londoners not to become afraid to go outside and said there would be continued police presence in the area.<br>“But I completely understand that despite this, women in London and the wider public — particularly those in the area where Sarah went missing — will be worried and may well be feeling scared,” she said.<br>It’s unclear if Everard knew the police officer, who was off duty at the time of her disappearance.<br></p>

It is understood he was alone at the time he suffered the head injuries. There is no suggestion that anyone else was involved.<br>The Met diplomatic protection cop was supposed to be monitored every 15 minutes under normal custody rules for potentially vulnerable prisoners.<br>Couzens has since been discharged and returned to custody, with his time in custody suspended during his hospitalisation.<br>The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards allegedly, are thought to be investigating the incident.<br>Met Commissioner Cressida Dick announced Wednesday night that human remains had been found in the search area. however she did not confirm that they belonged to Everard .<br>Authorities had narrowed the search down to PC Couzens after a car linked to him was allegedly spotted on a motorist’s dashcam near to where Sarah was last seen on the night of Wednesday March 3. <br>The development opened a line of investigation to find out whether Wayne Couzens used his warrant card to entice Sarah into a car. Police however, do not believe PC Couzens had ever met Sarah previously.<br>Detectives searching social media messages, hvave not found a link between Couzens and Everard.<br></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The remains were recovered 30 miles from the Deal home where Couzens, a member of the Met Police armed corp,and his wife were arrested on Tuesday night on suspicion of Sarah’s kidnap. The police marksman, whose role involves guarding politicians and protecting events attended by senior royals, is believed to have worked a shift in South London that day.<br>It was reported Wednesday that footage from a bus CCTV gave invetigators a breakthrough in the case. Detectives also searched the suspect&#8217;s locker.<br>Police are now investigating whether Couzens used his police warrant card to entice Everard into a car. Authorities do not believe however, that PC Couzens had ever met Sarah previously. Police believe that &#8220;Sarah didn’t know whoever attacked her.” Searching social media did not reveal any links between Couzens and Everard, either. <br><br></p>
