<p>A Texas state trooper who was shot in the head and abdomen by a driver he had pulled over to help has died, officials said Wednesday.<br>Chad Walker, 38, had been on life support after he was shot Friday evening ;while stopping to help ;DeArthur Pinson Jr. ;in his apparently disabled car west of the city of Mexia.<br>Tropper Walker had not yet come to a stop behind ;Pinson Jr.&#8217;s vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway when the 37-year-old driver got out and opened fire. ; ; ; ;<br>&#8216;Our DPS family is absolutely heartbroken at the loss of one of our brothers in uniform who was killed in the line of duty,&#8217; said DPS Director Steven McCraw. ;<br>&#8216;Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Walker was committed to protecting the people of Texas. <p>Authorities say that Pinson of Palestine, Texas, shot Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Walker before he had stopped his vehicle during the traffic stop.<br>Walker was struck in the head and abdomen and was later flown to a hospital in Waco, about 40 miles away.<br>Authorities launched a manhunt for Pinson and he was reported dead Saturday. Pinson killed himself, according to Limestone County Judge Richard Duncan.<br>Pinson is said to have seen the patrol car and &#8216;immediately emerged from the driver&#8217;s seat of the disabled vehicle armed with a handgun and fired multiple rounds at Trooper Walker through the patrol unit&#8217;s windshield,&#8217; officials said.<br>He then fled on foot, authorities added. Pinson had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for armed robbery in 2007, ;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/texas-trooper-longer-displays-signs-valuable-brain-activity/story?id=76766529">ABC</a> ;reports. ;</p>

<p><br>The alleged gunman, identified as 36-year-old Dearthur Pinson of Palestine, Texas, saw the patrol car and &#8220;immediately emerged from the driver&#8217;s seat of the disabled vehicle armed with a handgun and fired multiple rounds at Trooper Walker through the patrol unit&#8217;s windshield.<br>&#8221; Pinson then allegedly walked back to his vehicle, retrieved a backpack and fled the scene on foot,&#8221; according to a statement from Todd Snyder, regional director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.<br>On Saturday night, Pinson was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a house in Mexia, where he had barricaded himself during a standoff with authorities, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety.<br></p>

<p>&#8216;Trooper Walker´s horrific murder is a solemn reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day to keep our communities safe,&#8217; Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement.<br>Walker had worked in law enforcement since 2003 and had been with DPS since 2015. He is survived by his wife and four children, a 15-year-old son, twin seven-year-old daughters and a two-month-old daughter.<br>The Texas Department of Public Safety had issued a statement on social media in which they said trooper Walker no longer exhibited &#8216;signs of viable brain activity&#8217; and that he was now being kept on life support until he can donate his organs. </p>
