<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nigeria&#8217;s Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Attahiru was buried Saturday in accordance with Muslim rights in the country&#8217;s capital Abuja, following his death in a military plane crash that killed all 10 people aboard, on the evening of Friday, May 21.<br>The Air Force aircraft, according to a Nigerian Armed Forces bulletin, crashed “at about 6 PM local time, with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru in company of his entourage, who were on official trip from Abuja to Kaduna,&#8221; killing Gen Attahiru along with Brig-Gen Mohammed Idris Abdulkadir, 50, Chief of Staff to Gen Attahiru, Brig-Gen Olatunji Lukman Olayinka, 51, Provost Marshall Nigerian Army and Brig-Gen Abdulrahman Kuliya, 53, Ag. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">The death of Gen Attahiru, 55, comes barely four months after his appointment to the post of Chief of Army. in President Muhammadu Buhari replaced all service chiefs in January 2021.<br>Neither president Buhari nor his Vice President Yinka Osibajo was present at the funeral services and burial at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday. They were represented by the Minister of defense</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The funeral services took place at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre, in the federal capital territory Abuja.<br>Burial with full military honors took take place at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja same day.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gen Attahiru joined the Nigerian army in 1984 and was commissioned an Infantry Second Lieutenant in 1986 after graduating from the Nigerian Defense Academy. He later attended the Armed Forces Command Staff College, and the Nigerian Army school of Infantry. <br>He later obtained a Masters degree in Strategic Management and Policy Studies from the Nigerian Defense Academy, as well as, a Masters of Science in Human Resources Management and Development form Salford University, UK. He also obtained a Diploma in International Studies from di University of Nairobi, Kenya.</p>
