<p>A California doctor and his model girlfriend appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday after a judge recused himself from case as victims spoke about how they were allegedly drugged and raped. <br>Newport Beach surgeon Grant Robicheaux, 40, was initially charged in 2018 with plying seven women with drugs and raping them at their Southern California ;home. ;<br>His girlfriend and co-conspirator and Cerissa Riley, 34, was charged in connection with five victims at the time. <br>Robicheaux, who appeared on Bravo TV&#8217;s Online Dating Rituals of the American Male, and Riley have pled not guilty, insisting the sex was consensual. ; <br><strong>Related Articles: </strong></p>

<p>Former Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said in September 2018 that the couple may have abused as many as 1,000 women and that he had troves of video evidence to prove it. ; <br>The ongoing case has seen a number of bizarre twists and turns that led one judge to recuse himself and ;the Orange County district attorney&#8217;s office to try to have the case dismissed, saying it believed there was insufficient evidence to proceed. <br>The case against Robicheaux and Riley was reassigned to Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank Ospino, a former Orange County public defender, following the surprise decision by Orange County Superior Court Judge Steven Bromberg to recuse himself. Bromberg last month denied a motion to recuse himself filed by defense attorneys, because the filing was late. </p>

<p>A woman who accused ;Robicheaux of raping her told ;Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank Ospino that she wanted to be heard, despite her case not being included in criminal filings against the reality TV doctor, ;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2021/08/19/newport-beach-surgeon-grant-robicheaux-cerissa-riley/">KCAL ;</a>reported.<br>&#8216;I&#8217;ve begged a judge not to dismiss my case,&#8217; the woman said, ripping the case as a &#8216;complete travesty&#8217; ;during the daylong hearing.<br>&#8216;I told Robicheaux I didn&#8217;t want to have sex with him.&#8217;<br>The case was reassigned to Judge Ospino in July after ;Orange County Superior Court Judge Steven Bromberg decided to recuse himself, KCAL reported.<br>Defense attorneys had reportedly filed a motion to disqualify Judge Bromberg from the case, claiming he had shown bias. <br>Bromberg denied claims that he had shown bias in the case, which had sparked tense exchanges between the judge and the attorneys on the case.<br>Prosecutors with the state Attorney General’s Office who had submitted a request to Judge Bromberg that they wanted to reduce charges to just one alleged victim in the case, told Ospino on Friday that they have decided to narrow it down to two victims instead.<br></p>

<p>Judge ;Bromberg denied the motion and the claims against him &#8211; but he recused himself anyway. <br>In an earlier twist, the case was reassigned to the Attorney General’s Office in August, 2020 after Orange County Superior Court Judge Gregory Jones refused County DA, Todd Spitzer’s request to dismiss the case and citing the politics interjected into the case, in a tense election season between Spitzer and his predecessor, Tony Rackauckas. Spitzer accused his predecessor, Rackauckas, of manufacturing Judge Jones denied the request. <br>During a hearing in May, the state prosecutors had asked to dismiss 10 charges involving six of the seven alleged victims. <br>&#8216;We have no reason to believe that any of these victims are being untruthful,&#8217; but a review found that some allegations couldn&#8217;t be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, the prosecutor said.</p>

<p>The motion said a review found that some allegations couldn&#8217;t be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.<br>Noting twists and turns in the case, Judge Bromberg said it is &#8216;becoming the never-ending story.&#8217; <br>Before recusing himself, Judge Bromberg granted a motion from prosecutors to dismiss charges related to two victims.</p>
