<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 31-year-old man at the center of the Houston House of Horrors murder case made his first court appearance in a Harris County court on Thursday.<br>Brian Coulter is facing a charge of felony murder for the beating death of his girlfriend&#8217;s eight-year-old son, whose skeletal remains were discovered over the weekend in a Houston apartment alongside the boy&#8217;s three brothers in deplorable conditions. <br>Coulter clad in regulation prison orange was led into the courtroom in handcuffs and shackles, marking his first public appearance since his arrest on Tuesday. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A judge read the charge aloud and asked the defendant if he understood it, which he affirmed. Coulter then signed documents barring him from making any contact with his girlfriend&#8217;s three surviving sons. <br>Coulter who was on a mental health hold, was not in attendance at hearing the previous day, where the judge set bond at $1million. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Harris County authorities on Wednesday alleged that Coulter punched and kicked Kendrick to death around Thanksgiving Day last year. The child&#8217;s mother Gloria Williams refused to report her boyfriend to the police, claiming she was afraid her children would be taken away and she would end up in jail. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kendrick Lee, 8, was said to have been punched and kicked all over his body until he stopped moving Mom and boyfriend arrested in Texas over death of woman&#8217;s child.<br>If he makes bond, Coulter will be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor, remain under house arrest and avoid contacting Williams, reported <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2021/10/28/man-accused-of-killing-girlfriends-8-year-old-son-expected-to-appear-in-court-thursday/">KPRC</a>.<br>Prosecutor Andrea Beall, who only handles child fatalities as part of her job, told KPRC this case stands out. <br>&#8216;This is the only type of case I deal with, and I will say this particular case is such a gross deviation from what we expect human beings to behave like that it has been very emotional and taxing on the investigators, the DA’s office,,&#8217; she said, &#8216;and the priority should be making sure that all the surviving children get the help they need.&#8217;<br>The victim&#8217;s mother Gloria Williams, 35, who allegedly was present for the crime, has been charged with injury to a child by omission and tampering with a human corpse. <br>A judge set her bond at $900,000 on Wednesday. <br>She was due back in court on Friday, but her next appearance will likely be rescheduled for next week. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kendrick Lee&#8217;s skeletal remains were discovered by the police on Sunday inside an unfurnished Houston apartment with soiled carpet, flies and roaches, where his three starving brothers, ages 15, 10 and 7, had been living alone with no blankets and surviving on junk food deliveries from mom and handouts from neighbors for months. The apartment had no power.<br>Gloria Williams and Brian Coulter have been together for a couple of years and lived in an apartment in Westchase, located about 6 miles from the filthy apartment where deputies on Sunday discovered the skeletal remains of Williams&#8217; 8-year-old son. <br>When Houston deputies went to serve the arrest warrant on Williams and Coulter, they found the pair reading news stories about their own case at a library. Officials with the Harris County Sheriff&#8217;s Office said the pair were surfing the internet on Tuesday in search of articles about their alleged crimes.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The grandmother of one of Gloria Williams&#8217; daughters has described the woman at the center of Houston&#8217;s shocking child abuse case as being &#8216;very unstable,&#8217; and accused her of failing to protect her six children, including the eight-year-old autistic boy who was beaten to death and left to rot in an apartment with his siblings for a year.<br>Melody Robinson, the paternal grandmother of Williams&#8217; 13-year-old daughter, who has had custody of the girl from age two, told KTRK the mom-of-six is &#8216;not a mother&#8217; after allegedly turning a blind eye to her son&#8217;s murder and her other children&#8217;s abuse.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>Robinson also revealed she is now caring for Williams&#8217; 17-year-old daughter, who allegedly had been kicked out of the house by her mother at age 15 and forced to live on the streets after trying to protect her brothers from abuse. <br>Robinson&#8217;s son previously dated Williams for about three years, and at one point the whole family stayed with her, including Williams&#8217; two daughters and four sons, at least two of whom are autistic.<br>In separate interviews with Fox 26, KTRK and KPRC, Robinson said Williams did not have her life together and had refused repeated offers of help from relatives.<br>&#8216;Our job, as a mother, is to protect our children,&#8217; Robinson said. &#8216;She failed that baby. She failed her kids in that area. She did not protect her children.&#8217;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8216;For you, as a mother, to watch somebody do that to your child, that&#8217;s not a mother. A mother doesn&#8217;t do that,&#8217; said Robinson. <br>Robinson said when the youngest daughter turned 2 years old, Williams who was pregnant at the time with her fourth child, contacted her, asking if she could take in her granddaughter. <br>Williams later ceded full parental rights of the child to her grandmother. Additionally, Robinson recently received conservatorship of Williams&#8217; oldest child, her 17-year-old daughter, who had been ejected from her mother&#8217;s home aged 15 after trying to prevent Coulter from abusing her younger brothers. <br>The teen with no where to go Robinson said, was forced to live on the streets for more than a year. <br>When she ended up at the hospital, Children’s Protective Services contacted Robinson. Although Robinson was not the biological grandmother, she took her in so she could live together with her younger half-sister. <br>&#8216;The 17-year-old wanted to be with me and so the mom didn’t want her and told me just take her and didn’t want her back,&#8217; the grandmother said.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The grandmother said the two sisters would talk to their brothers on FaceTime. Williams&#8217; 15-year-old son never mentioned that their younger had died. <br>The negligent mother&#8217;s relatives in a seperate with KPRC revealed that two of Williams&#8217; sons were likely autistic, including Kendrick, who was described as mostly non-verbal. However, she kept family at arm&#8217;s length and would only reach out to ask for money. <br>Whenever they would ask about the children&#8217;s well-being, Williams would assure them they were fine, they said. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Recent social media posts show that Williams has been referring to Coulter as her husband, and the two even got matching &#8216;warrior&#8217; tattoos. <br>Coulter&#8217;s significant collection of body art also includes the words &#8216;loyalty&#8217; and &#8216;family over everything,&#8217; along with face tattoos depicting a cross and a dollar sign. <br>His Instagram page, which was last updated in August, shows the murder suspect posing up in his over-the-top jewelry, listening to hip hop and making unintelligible comments. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Williams also bragged about the baubles she had received from her &#8216;husband,&#8217; stressing that all the items were real. Court records show that neither suspect has a significant criminal history. <br>Coulter had been charged in 2011 with displaying a counterfeit inspection certificate, a misdemeanor, which was later dismissed. ;<br>Williams had been picked up in 2006 on a count of forgery, but it was ultimately dropped. ;<br>Court documents indicate that the mom-of-six more recently had been charged for failing to enroll her children in school. ;<br>Alief Independent School District told KTRK that in 2019 and 2020, the school district filed truancy papers against the siblings&#8217; mother because two of them, Ja&#8217;Veon Kirklin and his older sister, were not attending school.
