<p>A woman in the Bronx, NY, was held hostage after a date with a man she met online, authorities and court documents say, and when she couldn&#8217;t make a 911 call, she turned to a food delivery app to despatch a desperate plea for help to the outside world.</p>

<p>The suspect, also a New York City resident has been charged after the Bronx District Attorney&#8217;s Office said he raped and held captive the woman whom he met online.<br>The alleged rapist, Kemoy Royal, 32, has been charged with predatory sexual assault, rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse after a woman wrote a note for help while ordering food in NYC.<br>The 24-year-old woman was able to escape after she used the food delivery app Grubhub and asked for help, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/call-the-police-nyc-rape-victim-rescued-after-using-grubhub-order-to-send-help-note/3745690/" target="_blank">NBC4</a> reports. <br>The food delivery order of an Irish breakfast sandwich and a cheeseburger was reportedly sent at 5 a.m. on June 19 to Chipper Truck Café in Yonkers. <br>The person who placed the order wrote in a section for additional instructions, &#8220;please call the police&#8230; please don&#8217;t make it obvious,&#8221; according to <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/yonkers-cafe-helps-save-woman-thanks-to-note-on-grubhub-order/" target="_blank">CBS New York</a>.<br>&#8220;People normally put notes like, &#8216;Can you leave it in my driveway? Can I have extra syrup in my order? Can I have an extra soda?&#8217; But never something like this,&#8221; employee Alicia Berme told the CBS station.</p>

<p>Employees then called their boss who told them to call the police. NYPD officers showed up at the Bronx apartment and arrested Kemoy Royal.<br>Alice Bermejo who co-owns the restaurant with her husband, said one of the employees called her spouse about it: “They’d seen the note on the order, and they called my husband, asking ‘What should we do,’ and he was like, ‘Call the police. Can’t take any risks. Better be safe than sorry,&#8217;” she told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://abc7ny.com/grubhub-woman-held-hostage-bronx-911-call/11986016/" target="_blank">WABC</a>.<br>New York City cops soon arrived at the home where the order was placed in the Eastchester neighborhood of the Bronx. The suspect Kemoy Roya, opened the door of the Pratt Avenue residence while believing that the woman’s food had arrived, only to find out it was police. <br>Royal was in the apartment with the hostage, a 24-year-old woman, he met months ago online and finally met in person, officers said. Royal allegedly had kept her a prisoner at the home, only letting her use her phone to order food. <br>“Just knowing that, like, we were there, and that being open 24 hours allowed her to have a way to get help,” Bermejo’s daughter Alicia<strong> </strong>said. <br>&#8220;When I see the message on the paper, I said just call police and don&#8217;t send the food because this is something else. It&#8217;s an emergency,&#8221; owner Valentine Bernejo told NBC4.<br>They restaurant owning family did not know how bad the woman’s situation was until a friend of hers called the next day to thank them, she said. </p>

<p>Royal is charged with predatory sexual assault, strangulation, criminal sex act, unlawful imprisonment, menacing, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and sexual abuse in the Pratt Avenue incident, according to the Bronx District Attorney&#8217;s Office.<br>He has pled not guilty to the charges, according to a district attorney, and is being held on a $200,000 bond.<br>Royal was also charged with sexual abuse and strangulation for allegedly assaulting a 26-year-old woman in his apartment on June 15.<br>&#8220;You never think that these things happen, but it obviously happens and just glad that we can help and we did the right thing,&#8221; Alice Bernejo said, NBC4 reports.<br>After hearing the news, Grubhub gave $5,000 to the restaurant for contacting the police. <br>His next court appearance is scheduled for June 24. It&#8217;s unclear if he has entered a plea to the charges.</p>
