<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A suspect who allegedly shot two Maryland police officers, leaving one in serious condition, has been taken into custody after being surrounded by law enforcement overnight.<br>The gunman David Linthicum was arrested by police just before 6am this morning after he was located and &#8216;pinned&#8217; within a &#8216;perimeter&#8217; through the night, Harford County Police said. Linthicum had been on the run since Wednesday after a shooting in his home in Cockeysville.<br>Harford County police officers were seen pleading with Linthicum to surrender throughout the hour-long standoff before he was finally taken into custody just before 6:00am on Friday.<br>The critically injured officer was shot on Thursday night during a search for Linthicum, who authorities said had wounded a different officer while firing at police the previous afternoon.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 24-year-old gunman eluded capture twice during the 36-hour manhunt after shooting officers on Wednesday and Thursday.<br>Linthicum had barricaded himself in a wooded area near a shopping mall in Fallston at around 7pm on Thursday, before an exchange of gunfire took place where one officer was seriously injured.<br>Police sources said the officer who was was shot multiple times in the torso, was wearing a ballistic vest. That officer had been admitted to Shock Trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore and was on life support.<br>&#8216;He is going to need a significant amount of reconstruction,&#8217; a doctor said, adding &#8216;We are putting our plan together now. He&#8217;ll be with us for a while.&#8217;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told reporters in the early hours of Friday morning before his arrest: &#8216;We believe he is armed with at least one rifle. It&#8217;s not so easy as just walking up and putting him in handcuffs.&#8217;<br>Sheriff Gahler said earlier Linthicum was isolated in an area where there was no threat to public safety and officers would wait to avoid using deadly force while trying to make an arrest. &#8216;We don´t want to be forced into taking this individual´s life,&#8217; he said.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Linthicum had stolen the detective&#8217;s vehicle after the shooting around 9.20pm, police said.<br>Police took a rifle and a handgun from the recovered vehicle after the suspect fled, Gahler said.<br>The first shooting occurred while police were responding to a call for a person in crisis. Baltimore County officers were called Wednesday afternoon to a home on Powers Avenue in Cockeysville, where a family member escorted them to the person in crisis, police said in a statement.<br>While the officers interacted with Linthicum, he fired multiple shots, wounding one officer, police spokesperson Joy Stewart said. Officers did not fire their weapons during that interaction, she said.<br>The injured officer was taken to a hospital and officials announced late Wednesday that he had been released and was in good spirits.<br>The suspect in the shooting was later identified by police as Linthicum.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There was a heavy police presence in the area with helicopters circling overhead Wednesday as officials closed roads in the neighborhood of single-family homes with large lawns that back up to woods, news outlets reported. Officials urged residents to shelter in place and several schools in the area were closed Thursday.<br>The search continued into Thursday evening as police ordered residents near the home in Cockeysville to shelter in place because Linthicum was spotted in the area.<br>Linthicum was subsequently taken into custody early Friday morning.</p>
