<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A former New York podiatrist pled guilty to a handful of charges stemming from allegations that he arranged to have his estranged wife killed last year, going on two years after he was paroled from prison after being busted for an identical murder plot eight years earlier.<br>Ira Bernstein served nearly five of a fifteen year prison sentence, after plotting to murder his wife, Susan Bernstein, back in 2015.<br>Last week Bernstein, 49, was similarly charged with multiple felonies after evidence suggested he attempted to solicit the murder of Susan. <br>According to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Bernstein then <a href="https://www.facebook.com/RocklandCountyDA/posts/pfbid0Nx7iJQmvABPu9XB5jyUM16PhnuU74GFS2WQQdU5iRXJwNvdxo9Ls9Qk4xVtPWW7Rl">conspired </a>to destroy evidence with his sister between July 29 and Sept. 21, 2022.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The murder-for-hire plot was foiled when the salesman reported the couple to the police. Bernstein subsequently pled guilty to felony conspiracy and other charges, and was sentenced to five to 15 years behind bars in 2017. <p class="wp-block-paragraph"><br>Gribeluk, then a 35-year-old, the mother of three,<a href="https://www.lohud.com/story/news/crime/2016/09/28/kelly-gribeluk-murder-plot-plea/91218640/"> admitted her role</a> in the assassination plot and efforts to have ;two insurance investigators beaten up for looking into Bernstein&#8217;s ;podiatry practice. The insurance investigators were photographed with false bruises to convince the couple the beating had taken place.<br>At the sentencing, Susan Bernstein told the judge her husband was “evil,” and risked having their special-needs daughter killed in order to get rid of his estranged wife.<a href="https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/06/NYPICHPDPICT000012263699.jpg" rel="prettyPhoto"></a><br>“This is beyond sickening,” she said in court. ;<br>“My children knew their father was evil. Ira is evil.”<br>Gribeluk, was sentenced in 2017 to 4 to 12 years in prison, but was paroled in May 2021.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The latest charges against Bernstein and his sister are unrelated to the original case, the prosecutor’s office confirmed in a statement.<br>“I commend the Ramapo Police Department for their investigative work and the detectives from Rockland County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the case,” District Attorney Thomas Walsh said.<br>“We will now move forward with the prosecution phase of the case.” <br>The grand jury indictment charges Bernstein with one count each of second-degree criminal solicitation, fourth-degree criminal solicitation, tampering with physical evidence, and fifth-degree criminal conspiracy. <br>He would face a maximum sentence of three and half to seven years in prison at sentencing.</p>
