<p>Police in Madison, Wisconsin arrested a local resident over the brutal attack of female college student who was sexually assaulted and strangled after being &#8216;snatched off the street by a stranger&#8217;, on Sunday<br>According to the police report the suspect, 26-year-old Brandon A. Thompson, &#8216;pretended to be an innocent bystander&#8217; and told a witness he &#8216;just found&#8217; the survivor before fleeing. <br>Hours before the attack, Fitchburg police had pulled Thompson of Brooklyn, over for a registration violation, an encounter that was recorded on video and confirmed Thompson was driving the vehicle and what clothing he was wearing.<br>Downtown cameras reportedly captured Thompson following the woman just before the attack. Police confirmed his clothing matched the surveillance video which captured him walking behind the survivor prior to the alleged assault.<br>Witness statements and biological evidence also helped identify Thompson as a suspect, police said.<br>Thompson refused to stay on the crime scene and left in his vehicle. Police said there is no connection between the two.<br>Thompson&#8217;s vehicle was stopped for a registration violation at 1.18am Wednesday morning and he was booked into the jail at 7.02am. He was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual assault, first-degree reckless injury and strangulation. </p>

<p>The victim who is a 20-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin student, 20, been found at about 3.20am Sunday in between two houses in Madison, Wisconsin. She was reportedly &#8216;snatched off the street by a stranger and dragged between two houses&#8217; &#8211; where a neighbor heard her cries for help.<br>The woman found naked and severely beaten in the 500 block of West Wilson Street at 3:18 am on September 3, according to the police report. She was left with life-threatening injuries after she was brutally beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled by the suspect. <br>The college senior suffered a broken jaw after being severely beaten and sexually assaulted by the violent rapist. Speaking about the case Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said, &#8216;This case will not be complete until this cowardly attacker receives the justice he deserves.&#8217; </p>

<p>The victim has &#8216;severe signs of physical trauma&#8217; and is in &#8216;critical condition.&#8217; But she will be expected to survive. <br>Online records show Thompson lived in Brooklyn, near Madison in Wisconsin, and had previous addresses near the UW-Milwaukee campus.<br>Attorney Jessa Nicholson Goetz and her firm, Nicholson Goetz &; Otis, S.C., is representing Thompson. <br>&#8216;Brandon is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a minor in Psychology,&#8217; Goetz said in the statement to <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.channel3000.com/news/suspect-in-downtown-attack-on-uw-madison-student-arrested/article_34beeba0-4cd0-11ee-a0c4-d7766076dda0.html?fbclid=IwAR3ObfwSdfAahthqGaB4zCUH2tlIP19reJAlpn0yElJtkbh9YB4dk1ilM28" target="_blank">News 3 Now</a>.<br>&#8216;He grew up in a military family, with his father serving in the Army until his retirement and later working at the Department of Veteran&#8217;s Affairs,&#8217; the statement reads. </p>

<p>The arrest affidavit states that residents near the scene of the attack called 911 after Thompson told them there was a woman who needed help. <br>Thompson allegedly told a witness that he had found the woman in the street, naked and bloody, and carried her behind a home in the 500 block of West Wilson Street.<br>Another witness told police that he saw dried blood on Thompson&#8217;s hands.<br> Police did not find any blood in the road, however blood was allegedly found behind a house, on an A/C unit and on the ground. <br>When he was arrested at Meriter Hospital and interviewed by detectives, Thompson allegedly admitted to to hitting the woman and said &#8220;she came across a monster.&#8221;<br>He allegedly also said that he didn&#8217;t remember sexually assaulting the woman but later said he &#8220;could have.&#8221; <br>&#8220;I went into a rage, when I came to, she was on the ground,&#8221; Thompson allegedly said. <br>&#8220;The only thing I remember is just hitting.&#8221;</p>

<p>Officials said there was no connection between the suspect and the victim. <br>A neighbor said the college student was walking on a sidewalk when she was forced into an area between two houses at Bedford and Wilson streets, where a homeowner heard her crying for help, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wisn.com/article/uw-madison-campus-on-alert-beating-sexual-assault/44993420" target="_blank">WISN 12 News </a>reports. <br>Fellow students at the University of Wisconsin were &#8216;terrified&#8217; of a repeat attack. <br>The University sent out an email regarding the incident, warning student to remain &#8216;vigilant&#8217; and &#8216;maintain awareness of their safety and surroundings.&#8217; </p>

<p>During a press conference, Madison police Assistant Chief Paige Valenta confirmed they collected DNA evidence from the scene, adding that they had called in multiple resources to investigate the incident.<br>She said: &#8216;My heart goes out to the victim and her family.<br>&#8216;We have reached out to our partners in the Madison area, including the UW Police Department to ensure that they are supported as they try to cope with this terrible crime.&#8217;</p>
