<p>A 16-year-old California girl, Faith Jeffers, is recovering in a trauma unit after suffering spinal injuries when a sheriff&#8217;s deputy slammed her to the ground during a brawl outside of a high school football game in Victorville, on Friday night. <br>According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff&#8217;s Department, authorities responded to Victor Valley High School around 6:30pm after getting a report about a large scale fight between students. <br>Cell phone video shows the deputy pick up the girl and the slam her hard on to the pavement, a teen boy then becomes involved and confronts the officer. <br></p>

<p>The police report said the teenage boy punched an officer in the face. However, his mother told ABC7 her son did nothing wrong and showed photos of his injuries that she claims were caused when deputies instead punched punched in the face.<br>The video which has created consternation among parents was published by <a href="https://www.kark.com/news/video-shows-deputy-slamming-girl-to-the-ground-in-southern-california/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.kark.com/news/video-shows-deputy-slamming-girl-to-the-ground-in-southern-california/">KARK </a>news</p>

<p>Authorities say that they felt threatened by the crowd and fired pepper balls into the group in order to try and make them disperse. <br>When an another group of officers appeared at the scene, according to the police account, 16-year-old Faith Jeffers allegedly,attempted to grab a pepper ball launcher which prompted the slam. </p>

<p>The boy, Anthony Smiler, 16, is accused of punching a deputy in the face. He was later taken into custody while Jeffers was rushed to a local hospital with traumatic injuries to her head and spine. <br>&#8216;He picked my daughter up and he just tossed her. He just threw her on the floor with no remorse,&#8217; Priscilla Jeffers, the girl&#8217;s mother, told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://ktla.com/news/local-news/video-shows-socal-deputy-slamming-teen-girl-on-ground-in-violent-brawl/" target="_blank">KTLA</a> in a tearful interview. <br>&#8216;She has back injuries from where he threw her forcefully on the asphalt and she has a fractured shoulder and her whole head has bumps and bruises,&#8217; she added. <br>Her mother believes that a girl from another school who has been bullying her daughter showed up at Friday&#8217;s game and began the altercation. </p>

<p>Priscilla Jeffers was in attendance at the game and didn&#8217;t realize that it was her daughter who was involved in the brawl which broke out just before the end of Victor Valley&#8217;s 22-14 win over Big Bear. <br>&#8216;It looked like he was just tossing a rag or a sweater on the floor until my other daughter said: &#8220;Mom, that&#8217;s Faith!&#8221; I couldn&#8217;t believe it&#8230; I can&#8217;t believe that I let my daughter to go a football game and something like this would happen,&#8217; Priscilla said. <br>&#8216;We are citizens, we are taxpayers and they’re supposed to protect us. Not hurt our kids at all. I think it’s wrong they did that.&#8217;</p>

<p>Video footage of Friday night&#8217;s brawl after a high school football game in Victorville in which a teen girl was reportedly body slammed by a deputy sparked outrage among parents and is now being investigated.<br>A portion of the fight was captured on cellphone video, which shows a deputy grabbing a 16-year-old girl and slamming her to the ground.<br>The parents of the teenagers accused deputies of deploying excessive force in the circumstances.<br>Meanwhile, a protest over the confrontation was held Sunday afternoon outside of a Victorville police station where a disturbance erupted when someone in the crowd got into an altercation with deputies who were trying to control the crowd.</p>

<p>In a separate interview with <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://abc7.com/victor-valley-high-school-football-game-fight-deputy-slams-girl-excessive-force-investigation-video/13825448/" target="_blank">ABC Los Angeles,</a> Priscilla said when she first saw her daughter lying on the ground, she thought she was dead. <br>&#8216;I pulled in and I saw my daughter on the floor and at that moment, I didn&#8217;t know if she was dead or what was going on with her,&#8217; she said. <br>Now, the mother says that she is planning legal action but the sheriff&#8217;s office maintains that their deputy was the true victim of the whole thing, according a press release. <br>The press release accuses the teens of &#8216;moving forward toward the deputy&#8217; prior to the slamming. <br>&#8216;As additional deputies arrived, another pepper ball round was deployed toward the subjects and a 16-year-old female grabbed the pepper ball launcher. <br>&#8216;A deputy pulled the female away causing her to land on the ground,&#8217; the release reads. </p>

<p>Meanwhile, Smiler&#8217;s mother maintained her son&#8217;s innocence in an interview with KTLA. <br>&#8216;He attacked my son first. He was in the wrong and used aggressive force on a 16-year-old. When I called, they told me they couldn’t tell me whether he was booked in there or not so I need to know where my son is,&#8217; Kelani Lynch said. <br>Her son was taken to High Desert Juvenile Hall as prosecutor&#8217;s weigh bringing charges. <br>Lynch later told ABC Los Angeles that authorities never notified her to say that her son had been booked even though he was a minor. </p>

Just kids being kids.&#8217;<br>On Sunday, enraged locals staged a protest outside of the Victorville police station over the incident. <br>At the protest, Priscilla told <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/public-outrage-after-video-shows-teen-slammed-to-ground-by-deputy-in-san-bernardino-county/" target="_blank">CBS Los Angeles</a> that her daughter is &#8216;messed up&#8217; after Friday night. <br>&#8216;He attacked my daughter from behind. She&#8217;s 16-years-old. He was a grown man and he attacked my daughter. Now my daughter is scarred, now she&#8217;s messed up and I don&#8217;t know how long she&#8217;s gonna be messed up because of this,&#8217; she said. </p>

<p>The protest was led by Edin Alex Enamorado, who is based out of Los Angeles and regularly leads protests throughout California. <br>During the protest, Enamorado said that his girlfriend was one of four protesters who were arrested, reports the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://eu.vvdailypress.com/story/news/2023/09/24/protesters-frustrated-with-victorville-deputies-after-arrest-of-teens/70955686007/" target="_blank">Victor Valley Daily Press.</a> <br>A video on Enamorado&#8217;s YouTube shows protesters attacking the driver of Hyundai who had attempted to confront the group. <br>&#8216;There was a vehicle that was coming out of the car wash and they tried to run over protestors. There was a man that opened the door, hit a woman and then put hands on my girlfriend. She defended herself and they arrested her. They also arrested three other people unlawfully,&#8217; he told the newspaper. <br>Speaking about the body slam, Enamorado called it a &#8216;death sentence&#8217; for the teen. <br>&#8216;She could have easily died. We still don’t know the long-term effects,&#8217; he added.<br>Enamorado also said that his group plans to protest at the next school district meeting as well as filing a public records request seeking the officer&#8217;s name. </p>
