<p>A fugitive wanted for murder in his native Brazil has been arrested nearly 7,000 miles away on Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, living among America&#8217;s rich and famous.<br>Hiago Ornela-Da Silva was captured by federal agents in Edgartown, Massachusetts on Thursday.<br>Ornela-Da Silva, 31, went on the run in February last year after being named as a murder suspect in Barra de Sao Francisco in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo. <br>It is not clear how the illegal immigrant made his way to Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, but US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said he had entered the country illegally on multiple occasions dating back to 2007.<br>The billionaire enclave was last year a destination for migrants who were sent north by Republican Florida Governor Ron de Santis in a bid to highlight the Democrats disastrous border policy.</p>

<p>&#8216;The arrest of this Brazilian noncitizen demonstrates our commitment to prioritizing enforcement and removal efforts against unlawfully present noncitizens who are wanted for crimes in their home countries,&#8217; said Enforcement and Removal Operations [ERO], Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons. <br>The agency said the fugitive first illegally entered the US as a minor in December 2007 and was removed by a judge in June 2008.</p>

<p>Da Silva filed to rescind that removal order in July 2008, which was granted in August 2008. However, he was again ordered to leave the country in January 2009.<br>In August 2009 he left the US through the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.<br>Officials said he then unlawfully reentered the country at an unknown date and location without being inspected. He will remain in custody pending his extradition. <br>Noncitizens placed into removal proceedings receive their legal due process from federal immigration judges in the immigration courts, which are administered by the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review [EOIR] &#8211; an agency within the Department of Justice, separate from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.</p>

<p>The mystery of why da Silva chose Martha&#8217;s Vineyard as the spot to hide in plain sight may be partly explained by the fact is that it is one of the least likely places to search for him.<br>The median home price in Martha&#8217;s Vineyard is well over $800,000, according to the census, with median household income at $77,392.<br>In September 2022, Florida&#8217;s republican governor Ron DeSantis flew 50 migrants to the affluent island.<br>The move sparked outcry from the liberal leaders of the small island in Massachusetts who branded it &#8216;inhumane.&#8217;<br></p>
