<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A 33-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Tatenda Mhlanga, were arrested alongside a South African man, Johannes Lebese, 53, on November 11, for allegedly killing, decapitating and dismembering her ex-boyfriend, Obert Mazadza. After the murder, the pair reportedly kept the severed head and upper torso, then burnt the the remaining body parts at a thrash dumpsite, where investigators recovered the charred remains. <br>Mhlanga and Lebese from Watville appeared at the Benoni Magistrates’ Court in Gauteng, South Africa on Monday, November 20, 2023. <br>They pair appeared before the Benoni Magistrates’ Court Wednesday, charged with murder and abuse a corpse. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On November 11, crime prevention wardens reportedly encountered Mhlanga and Lebese in possession of a suspicious suitcase. <br>Acting on their instincts, the wardens demanded the suitcase be opened, only to uncover the gruesome sight of the severed head and upper torso of an adult male.<br>The remains were later identified as belonging to Mhlanga’s ex-boyfriend, Obert Mazadza, a 42-year-old Zimbabwean national.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a statement on Tuesday, The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the incident: “It&#8217;s alleged that on 11, November 2023, the two were stopped by the crime prevention wardens carrying a suitcase,” said Lumka Mahanjana, NPA Regional Spokesperson, Gauteng Division in Pretoria.<br>&#8220;The wardens asked the two to open the suitcase and they found a human head and upper body of Mhlanga&#8217;s ex-boyfriend, Obert Mazadza, 42, who is also a Zimbabwean national,&#8221; police said.<br>&#8220;After discovering the body parts, it is alleged that the wardens called the police. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When the police arrived and were still busy on the scene, the Community Policing Forum came and reported that they found other body parts at a nearby dumping site.<br>&#8220;Lebese was arrested on the scene and Mhlanga, who ran away while the wardens were searching the suitcase, handed herself to the police the following day, on 12 November 2023.<br>“In court, Mhlanga abandoned her bail application, and the matter was postponed to 24 November 2023, for Lebese’s formal bail application.”<br>Meanwhile some residents of Watville have come forward alleging that Mhlanga had deceived Lebese by claiming the suitcase contained a cow’s head, whereas she was fully aware of its truly gruesome contents. Furthermore, witnesses recount hearing Mhlanga washing blankets at 3 a.m. on November 10, presumably to destroy evidence, adding that Lebese was not present during this suspicious activity. Mhlanga&#8217;s landlord Cyprin Dlamini, disclosed that her tenant claimed she having a morning commitment, as the reason behind the early hour laundry. <br>According to Dlamini and neighbors, Mhlanga had requested an Uber on the morning of November 10, disembarking near the railway line where she hauled the suitcase to the dumping site, intending to burn the first load of body parts. <br>She was arrested in the process of transporting the second load, seeking assistance from Lebese, who happened to be on his way to work. The second Uber driver had refused her a ride due to the odor emanating from the suitcase.</p>
