<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While being tased, DeHart slammed his door shut, pointed his gun out the window and shot both officers. <br>Dashcam footage shows DeHart firing an additional shot before driving away and he is heard saying, &#8216;I told you motherf******s.&#8217; <br>McCowan immediately fell after being shot at close range and Eggers, 22, retreated to her patrol car.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Eggers initially pulled DeHart over and told him he was driving on the wrong side of the road. <br>She asked him to step out of the vehicle because she suspected him of smoking marijuana.<br>DeHart denied smoking marijuana and said he was in his grandmother&#8217;s car driving home from his son&#8217;s high school sports game. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">DeHart denied smoking marijuana and said he was in his grandmother&#8217;s car driving home from his son&#8217;s high school sports game. He told the deputy he was tying up his hair and did not notice his car swerving. <br>&#8216;I&#8217;m black and they just being nasty&#8230; I&#8217;m refusing,&#8217; DeHart said to his grandmother, who he was on the phone with when Eggers asked him to get out of the car. <br>&#8216;They just pulled me over for no reason, they see my f*****g hair pulled up, I&#8217;m black with dreads and they pulling this mess for no reason.&#8217; <br>The deputy explained there is no refusing the search and if she smells marijuana she has probable cause to search the vehicle.<br>&#8216;This is racism,&#8217; DeHart said when McCowan told him to listen to Eggers orders.<br>&#8216;I don&#8217;t care what color you are dude, she gave you a lawful command,&#8217; McCowan said.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The deputies repeatedly told him to get out of the car and DeHart refused, insisting he did nothing wrong. <br>&#8216;I&#8217;m recording this&#8230; I was not on the wrong side of the road,&#8217; DeHart said.<br>&#8216;I didn&#8217;t do nothing, please don&#8217;t do this to me,&#8217; DeHart said after they tasered him for the first time. <br>It was then as police continued to tase him, and DeHart continued to shut the door, that he pulled a gun out and pointed it through the window and shot at the cops. <br>Eggers was shot in the leg and footage shows she attempted to put a tourniquet on herself. McCowan was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.<br>McCowan began his career in law enforcement in 2020 after graduating from a training class and was commended in 2021 for helping save the life of a man trapped in a burning vehicle. He&#8217;s survived by his fiancé Leah Lane, his two children and one granddaughter. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">DeHart was arrested on Tuesday after a five-day manhunt and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon.<br>He made his first court appearance on Thursday and was arraigned but has not yet entered a plea.<br>DeHart&#8217;s brother, Marcus DeHart, was arrested for aiding his brother after the shooting and is charged with being an accessory after the fact to a crime, reported <a class="" href="https://www.wbir.com/article/news/local/maryville-blount/marcus-dehart-bonds-out/51-1a51077b-5d19-4324-9b7c-a5c65fb59503" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WBIR</a>.<br>At McCowan&#8217;s funeral, he was remembered for his service to others even before following his dream to become a law enforcement officer. <br></p>
