<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Prosecutors in in Cagliari, southern Sardinia Italy accused truck driver Igor Sollai of killing his wife then operating her phone, for months, to create the impression she was alive.<br>Francesca Deidda, 42, disappeared in May from the Italian town of San Sperate, in Cagliari, southern Sardinia and investigators believe that she was killed by her husband, 43-year-old Sollai.<br>After Deidda was last seen, messages were reportedly sent from her phone telling friends and family stating that she needed some time away due to a breakdown of her relationship. Curiously, she refused to speak to anyone on the phone.<br>The missing woman was a call center employee. Her job also received her resignation in an email sent after she disappeared. <br>Investigators believe the messages and emails were written by her husband Sollai after the murder. <br>He killed his wife and hid her body, before deploying the bogus communication to conceal his crime, pretending Deidda was still alive. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While a body has not being found in the case, the Carabinieri and investigators from the Prosecutor&#8217;s Office in the capital are convinced of Sollai&#8217;s culpability, having a gathered series of circumstantial evidence that led to the arrest of the 42-year-old husband on charges of aggravated murder and concealment of a corpse.<br>Deidda is presumed dead and Sollai has been arrested on murder charges last week Friday and remains in prison. <br>The suspect maintains he is innocent as his lawyer, Carlo Demurtas, told local media: &#8220;There is no evidence that this was a homicide. <br>&#8220;And to date we have no evidence to say that our client used his wife&#8217;s phone or sent the email.&#8221;<br>Demurtas had campaigned for Sollai to be placed under house arrest or to be released pending trial. However, a judge ruled today that the suspect will remain in custody. <br>Meanwhile the family home in San Sperate where the couple had lived since 2012, has been seized by police along with their cars. <br>The search for the body continues with a wide-ranging sweep in the area of San Sperate, about 12.5 miles from Cagliari, and beyond, planned in the coming hours by the Carabinieri attempt an to find the body.</p>
