<p>A chicken shop employee made his first appearance at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago on Wednesday.<br>Mehdi Medellel, 42, appeared before Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman, charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The judge ordered Medellel detained pending trial during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.<br>Chicago police arrested Medellel on first degree murder charges following the shooting of the two men at J&;J&#8217;s Fish and Chicken on October 7 in Chicago&#8217;s Southwest Side. <br>Horrifying footage captured the moment the chicken shop worker pulled out a gun and killed two male customers, execution style, in the middle of his shift. <br>According to police, the shooting unfolded after the two victims, aged 55 and 56, began arguing with Medellel at around 10:30pm. Their identities have not been revealed by police. </p>

<p><br>In CCTV footage from the restaurant the victims appeared to have no clue of their imminent deaths in the seconds before shots were fired. <br>One was sat eating at a table and the other looking through a bag as the gunman emerged from behind a door. </p>

<p>It is unclear what the nature of the argument between the men was, and the Chicago Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for further information. <br>After the gunman initially pulled the gun out, one of the victims appeared surprised and backed up &#8211; while the other remained eating at a table. <br>The first victim cowered and walked to the back of a wall at gunpoint before the suspect shot a single shot at his head, causing him to collapse to the ground. <br>Before the second victim had any time to react or flee the shooting, the gunman then quickly turned and shot him in the head. <br>Police said the two victims sustained a single gunshot each to the head and face, and were pronounced dead at the scene. </p>

The shooter identified as Mehdi Medellel by police, fled but was arrested 30 minutes later, on two counts of first-degree murder </strong></p>



<p>The shooter was seen in the security footage then casually walking away from the restaurant, and police said they arrested Medellel around 30 minutes later. <br>Medellel a father-of-two resident in Cook County the last four years, has worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade, including stint as a restaurant manager at establishments in Brooklyn, New York, the attorney said.<br>He reportedly, spent three years working toward a computer engineering degree at Brooklyn College before dropping out to support his family. According to online records, Medellel has a criminal history in Illinois and Florida, including an arrest in 2021 for domestic battery &#8211; bodily harm.His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 29.</p>
