<p>Las Vegas based &#8216;hitman&#8217;, Michael Coleman, was arrested and later indicted after police connected the alleged killer to three murders believed to be part of a federal loan fraud scheme and another related to gang warfare.<br>Coleman, 41, initially was arrested on May 4, 2023, for the murder of 48-year-old Kidada Stewart. <br>While in custody Las Vegas Metropolitan police investigators last month linked the murder suspect to three additional murders.<br>Detectives believe three of Coleman&#8217;s alleged hits were in retaliation to a federal loan fraud scheme involving tens of millions of dollars, while the one was related to gang violence in the area.</p>

<p>From May 2021 until February 2023, Coleman allegedly killed three men and one woman, police said. He was also accused of injuring a bystander in one of the shootings.<br>The alleged hitman is believed to have been working with a man named Carl Chester, 41, who is accused of defrauding the government of several Paycheck Protection Program loans. <br>Chester and his associates would disperse the money, and Chester would take a cut for his own work and to help them get the loan, LVMPD Lt. Jason Johansson said.<br>Authorities said that as part of his scheme, Chester would threaten or use violence if he did not receive his cut of the money. Coleman was Chester&#8217;s enforcer who terminated those who shorted him in deals. <br>“As this fraudulent money that was obtained by Carl Chester and his associates was disbursed to individuals, Chester would typically receive his cut of the money for the work that he did, or how they got the lead to get the loan,” Johansson said. </p>

<p>“After tracking the victims, Michael Coleman would wait and ambush them, shooting all the victims multiple times,” police said.<br>In cases where Coleman was unable to catch the target, he would then go after their family members, police said.<br>The trail of killings unraveled on February 27, 2023, when officers responded to a harrowing 911 call from a witness who said they heard gunshots near Fort Apache Road and Mountains Edge Way in the southwest valley, according to a <a class="" href="https://www.8newsnow.com/investigators/videos-show-accused-las-vegas-hitman-allegedly-killing-4-in-ppp-fraud-scheme/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">8 News Now</a> report. </p>

<p>The responding officers found Kidada Stewart dead outside of a home. Police tracked Coleman to Stewart’s murder from a traffic stop in Arizona 12 hours after the shooting. The Arizona trooper released Stewart on a warning.<br>Two months earlier, on March 2, after police stopped a woman who was driving that car tagged as the getaway vehicle for the fugitive killer, detectives found a ghost gun – one assembled at home and made without a serial number – in the engine compartment. The vehicle was registered to Cassandra Coleman. Records confirmed Cassandra Coleman had a son named Michael Coleman.<br>A search of Michael Coleman’s phone, uncovered several email accounts, including one account which had multiple messages from a Las Vegas-area phone number about the late William Hill, his brother, their addresses and the modus operandi of the hit. The person at the other end of the communication was later identified as Carl Chester. <br>Furthermore in July 2023, the ghost gun found in the engine compartment matched cartridge casings found from Marcus Larry’s murder.<br>When police arrived to arrest Coleman for Stewart’s murder on May 4, 2023, he initially refused to leave his home and surrender, prompting a barricade. Ultimately he surrendered and was taken into custody.<br>He was indicted earlier this month by Clark County grand jury for three additional murders of Benjamin McCarty Jr., 49, Marcus Larry, 39, and William Hill Jr., 54.<br>McCarty was shot while working on his car in a parking lot in the 3900 block of Charleston Boulevard in May 2021.</p>

<p>Police said Coleman parked near McCarty and approached him before shooting and killing him. Police later identified the alleged getaway driver as Ardlanders Gibson.<br>Benjamin McCarty’s murder was the only hit of the four that had no connection to Chester, police said. McCarty, Gibson and Coleman were all part of a gang and police believe the motive behind the murder was internal strife within the gang.<br>The second murder attributed to Coleman happened in November 2021, when Marcus Larry was shot multiple times inside the Teriyaki Madness on Charleston Boulevard. <br>Police first arrested Larry&#8217;s cousin Police initially identified and arrested Oscar Richardson, Jr., Larry’s cousin, as the suspect, but he was later released after investigators obtained exonerating evidence.</p>

<p>In November 2023, 54-year-old William Hill Jr. was shot and killed outside his home while working on his car. Las Vegas police have since revealed that Hill Jr.&#8217;s murder was the fallout of his son being involved with Chester and his money laundering scheme. <br>Hills&#8217; son, Shavonte Hill, received more than $42,000 in federal money, lying on an application that he owned a barbershop when he did not, federal documents said. <br>Shavonte Hill who pled guilty to federal charges in January, and is serving a 30-month sentence. </p>

<p>In retaliation for the murder, Carl Chester, who organized the murders of Stewart, Larry and Hill, was in turn murdered on May 18, 2024, by members of Hill’s family, police said. Keveon Glenn, 29, was identified as a suspect in the shooting that left one person dead and two others injured.o<br>Coleman has three additional charges of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder added to his list of charges. <br>Scheduled arraignment in the combined criminal case for the three additional murder charges next month, Coleman who has remained in custody on $250,000 bail since his arrest for Stewart’s murder in May 2023, by a fresh order of the court is held without bail.Chester, Coleman and Gibson all served time in federal custody on gang-related charges. Gibson admitted he was the leader of the Rolling 60s Crips in West Las Vegas, documents said. Coleman shot a man in 2003 in North Las Vegas after the man “disrespected him.”<br>Coleman who has a history of killings is an ex-con who served time in federal custody on gang-related charges, same as Chester and Gibson. The latter at the time, admitted he was the leader of the Rolling 60s Crips in West Las Vegas, documents said. <br>Coleman shot a man in 2003 in North Las Vegas after the man “disrespected him.” In 2006, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He wrote a letter before sentencing, asking for a second chance, stating that he wanted to “apologize to the various communities of Las Vegas and the state of Nevada.”<br>yet after his release from prison in the 2010s, Coleman violated terms of his release and was ordered back to prison for six months. He was last released in 2017.<br><br><br></p>
