<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Latoshia Simon Daniels, 46, a certified anger management specialist and licensed social worker from Little Rock, Arkansas, who fatally shot a pastor she claims manipulated her into a sexual relationship and then discarded her, has been convicted of a lesser charge of second-degree murder. <br>The court rejected defense argument that the defendant suffered from major depressive disorder and childhood trauma that affected her judgment.<br>The jury also found Daniels<a href="https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:US:3a273f7a-c227-45e5-967d-044c8363e82a"> guilty of reckless endangerment</a> for shooting her victim&#8217;s wife. The verdict came after an four-day trial where Daniels, took the stand in her own defense.<br>Prosecutors said Latoshia Daniels, then 40, six years ago, drove five hours to a Memphis suburb where she killed Brodes Perry, 36, the former pastor of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee.<br>Latoshia Daniels purchased a gun in Arkansas about six hours before Brodes Perry was shot with the weapon. <br>The prosecution claimed that twice-married Daniels killed Pastor Perry while the two were having an affair, and that the murder was planned. Perry’s wife was also injured in the shooting at the Meridian Place Apartments in Collierville in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 2019. <br>Throughout the trial, Daniels’ attorneys never denied that she shot Perry or his wife, but said it was a crime of passion, fueled by Perry’s alleged manipulation. In closing her team argued that Daniels further contending that Daniels was emotionally distressed and killed Perry in the heat of passion while not being able to reason properly.</p>

We proved it was a knowing killing, but we just didn’t quite get there on premeditation.<br>“We can disagree with it and respect it at the same time. It’s not exactly what we asked for, but it’s not a bad verdict.”</p>

She then drove about five hours to the Perrys’ home in Collierville, just east of Memphis. <br>She spoke with the couple for around 40 minutes, but when Perry’s wife, Tabatha Perry Archie, went to escort Daniels out, Daniels pulled a gun from her jacket and shot Perry, then 36, multiple times. Brodes, hit multiple times in the head and torso died at the hospital.<br>Archie told the police that while shooting, Daniels kept repeating, “You broke my heart”. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then, when Archie knelt to check on her husband, Daniels told her to “get out of the way” before shooting her in the shoulder. The gunfire hit Perry in the head and torso, and he died at the hospital.<br>During her trial, Daniels testified that at 17, after she became pregnant and was forced to marry her boyfriend, whom she later discovered was having an affair. That betrayal she claimed left her feeling worthless and ashamed, leading to a suicide attempt before their divorce was finalized.<br>Despite earning a master’s degree and becoming a licensed clinical social worker, she testified that she continued to struggle with depression and feelings of failure.<br>Her second marriage was emotionally unfulfilling; when her husband refused counseling, she sought spiritual guidance instead, fearing another divorce would conflict with her religious beliefs. When She met Pastor Brodes Perry through church circles, describing their relationship as first supportive and later romantic.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Perry’s attention made her feel valued, but his refusal to tell his wife about the affair left her heartbroken and confused.<br>When she drove from Little Rock to Memphis On April 4, 2019, after buying a Ruger 9mm handgun, she only wanted closure, not confrontation.<br>Daniels claimed she felt “broken” and “in despair” and remembered little of the shooting, recalling only flashes of light and realizing she was holding a gun.<br>The prosecution countered that Daniels’ words during the shooting showed her premeditated intent, <br>Daniels said that her relationship with Perry began in 2017 when she sought spiritual counseling from him during her divorce. At that time, he worked at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During their second counseling session, Perry allegedly kissed her and then initiated a sexual relationship that day, which came with a set of strict rules, she testified.<br>“I had to use a specific app to communicate with him. I had to travel with him but pay my own way. I had to be naked in hotel rooms and address him as ‘yes, sir’ or ‘no, sir,’” Daniels testified. “He told me that his wife had agreed to this arrangement, that we would be sister wives.”<br>She said she believed him because he was a pastor and a “man of God.” However, Archie testified that she had no knowledge of the affair and never agreed to an open marriage, Court TV said.<br>Their relationship ended in 2018 when he moved to Memphis to work at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church. “I felt like my world was crashing down. I had given him everything,” Daniels said.<br>On the day of the shooting, Daniels said that she had purchased the gun to kill herself, not to use on Perry. She drove five hours to see Perry one final time before committing the act. “I just wanted to talk to him, to understand why he was throwing me away,” Daniels said.<br>“I loved Brodes,” she <a href="https://www.localmemphis.com/article/news/crime/latoshia-daniels-murder-trial-day-three/522-bce7b437-8311-4d11-bd39-092b7c0ea8f3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">added</a>. “I would never intentionally hurt him.”<br></p>
