<p>The gunman who shot a California doctor and his spin instructor wife at their Simi Valley home on Sunday was revealed to be a family member, in a double murder-suicide<br>Dr. Eric Cordes, 63, and his wife Vicki Schiller, 66, who were found with multiple gunshot wounds in the garage of their $1.3 million Simi Valley home on Sunday were shot by the the doctor&#8217;s adult son in a horror murder-suicide, police say. <br>Investigators believe son Keith Cordes, 37, opened fire on his father and stepmother. <br>The suspected shooter, a resident of Kentucky, then fled to the town of Chino around 70 miles away, where he set his car on fire, and fatally shot himself. </p>

<p>The alleged killer&#8217;s identity was not revealed until Tuesday, as the San Bernardino County medical examiner identified the severely burned corpse found inside the car as Keith Cordes.<br>Investigators say they are still trying to establish a motive for why Cordes would have wanted to kill his father and stepmother. <br>Authorities said the condition of Cordes&#8217; burned remains initially prevented identification, while a handgun believed to be the one used to kill the couple was also found inside his car. <br>The car Cordes drove from the double homicide to Chino was tracked from the grisly scene using license plate recognition cameras, and the vehicle was found to be registered to the suspect. </p>

<p>Eric Cordes was a longtime physician and radiologist at Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital for almost 30 years where he served his patients &#8216;with compassion and excellence&#8217;, according to the hospital.<br>His wife Vicki was a local spin class instructor. They were both previously married and have children. Vicki who recently became a grandmother. <br>&#8216;I didn&#8217;t hear the gunshots, my son did. He was upstairs and the window was open so he heard the gunshots and then looked out the window and saw the car speeding away, a black little Honda Civic,&#8217; said Mike Hylton, a neighbor who ran to help the couple after they were shot.<br>&#8216;There wasn&#8217;t a whole lot anybody could do. I think the shooter did what he set out to do very quickly.&#8217;</p>

<p>Investigators made the connection between the double-homicide in Ventura County and a case of apparent suicide and deliberate arson in San Bernardino County after a corpse was found inside a charred vehicle in Chino, about 70 miles away.<br>The <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-12-02/simi-valley-doctor-wife-fatally-shot-by-son-police-say">corpse was identified </a>Tuesday by the San Bernardino Medical Examiner as Kentucky resident Keith Cordes, the 37-year-old son of Dr Eric Cordes.<br>The body was so burned that detectives initially couldn’t identify him, but license plate recognition cameras enabled tracking of Keith’s black Honda Civic from the scene in Simi Valley to Chino, where he finally stopped near Ayala Park.<br>The medical examiner ruled that the person found inside the burnt vehicle died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Furthermore, it is believed that the handgun found in the car is the same weapon used in the double-murder.<br>Possible motive for the double slaying has not been revealed. </p>
