<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Alex Pretti had been injured in a scuffle with federal agents in Minneapolis just one week before he was shot dead, it has emerged. <br>US Border Patrol agent shot the 37-year-old American citizen dead in Minneapolis, a tragic event caught on camera. Pretti was killed during what appeared to be a struggle involving multiple agents just after 9am Saturday, January 24. <br>Viral videos show agents wrestling a man to the ground before one federal agent fires multiple shots into his chest, after which the agents scatter. The Department of Homeland Security at the time said the dead man, later identified as Alex Pretti, was armed with two magazines, and that the gun has since been recovered by federal authorities.</p>

A week later another federal agent shot at Venezuelan immigrant, s Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, striking him in the leg. <br>The injured man survived. He was charged, along with two others, with attempted murder for allegedly, assaulting federal agents in Minneapolis with a shovel and broom handle.<br>A week before agents shot him dead, Pretti, 37, was left with a broken rib after being tackled by a group of officers during a protest against Donald Trump&#8217;s immigration crackdown, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/27/us/alex-pretti-protesters-minneapolis-invs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="">CNN</a> reports.<br>The alleged assault occurred after Pretti stopped his car after seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers chasing a family on foot, the insider said. <br>Pretti the witness said began shouting and blowing a whistle, before he then was tackled to the ground by five agents. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Multiple bystander videos show a Border Patrol agent shooting and killing Pretti after a roughly 30-second scuffle around 9am Saturday. <br>The videos appear to contradict statements by DHS, which said the shots were fired &#8216;defensively&#8217; against Pretti as he &#8216;approached&#8217; them with a gun.<br>Gregory Bovino, the US Border Patrol commander-at-large, has said that Pretti planned to &#8216;massacre&#8217; federal agents when he was killed. However, in videos circulating of the incident, Pretti is seen with only a phone in his hand. No footage has shown with anything looking like a weapon in his hand. <br>During the scuffle, agents discovered that he was carrying a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, and they opened fire with several shots. <br>A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order banning the Trump administration from &#8216;destroying or altering evidence&#8217; related to the death of Pretti. </p>

While it has not been confirmed that Pretti&#8217;s gun fired any shots, Department of Homeland Security boss Kristi Noem immediately called Pretti a domestic terrorist. <br>That characterization by Noem appears to have irked the Trump administration. Critics have decried the lack of training in crowd control by the officers, with some in congress calling for the impeachment of secretary Noem.<br>By law, Customs and Border Patrol is required to inform relevant congressional committees about deaths in CBP custody within 72 hours.
