<p>A wallet belonging to a missing American student has been found floating off a beach near where he disappeared during a trip to Spain.<br>James &#8216;Jimmy&#8217; Gracey, 20, a junior at the University of Alabama, was holidaying for spring break visiting friends studying abroad in Spain.<br>He was last seen on Tuesday about 3am local time at the Shôko Barcelona Lounge Club, a beachfront nightclub in Barcelona. <br>He got separated from his friends at the club and never made it back to the Airbnb at Ronda de Sant Pere, a central avenue in the city, that he&#8217;d rented with friends.<br>His Theta Chi fraternity brother Cavin McLay said he wanted to stay longer at Shôko and became separated from the group. He was never seen again.</p>

<p>Police in the Catalan city, known as the Mossos d&#8217;Esquadra, found his wallet floating in the water off Somorrostro Beach. Catalonia police have deployed helicopters, boats, dive teams and motorcycle units to search the waterfront area, but police said no further clues were found that could lead them to the missing student.<br>6-foot-1, 175 lbs Jimmy Gracey was wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants, likely joggers, as well as a gold chain with a rhinestone cross when he was last seen. He is also believed to have been talking to a brown-haired American female around the time he was last seen.<br>His mother Therese Gracey, issued an urgent plea for help in the search for her missing son in a Facebook post, appealing to those who may have seen Jimmy to come forward.</p>

<p>Therese said she did not know exactly what happened to her son&#8217;s phone, and it was reportedly found with someone police arrested.<br>&#8216;What we&#8217;ve put together is that his phone was stolen and the police just happened to pick the guy who stole it up,&#8217; she wrote.<br>She claimed that law enforcement had discovered Gracey&#8217;s phone &#8216;when they searched the guy.&#8217;<br>However, Therese added that police had not shared details with the family.<br>Gracey’s father, Taras, has already traveled to Spain, according to All Alabama. Therese will likely join him soon.<br>Ranked the seventh best nightclub in the world, the Shôko Barcelona is a bustling beachfront nightclub known for its Mediterranean views, popular among locals and international visitors who flock to Catalonia&#8217;s best known city.<br>Gracey was staying at an Airbnb on Ronda de Sant Pere, one of the city&#8217;s main streets, about three kilometers from Shôko. He never made it back from the club.</p>

<p>The investigation into Gracey&#8217;s disappearance has been ongoing since Tuesday morning.<br>As of Thursday morning Mossos d&#8217;Esquadra, had activated its marine and underwater units around the Vila Olímpica area. <br>The they &#8216;We are conducting the initial checks and have taken a report in an open investigation,&#8217; police said, adding that &#8216;A call was received early yesterday morning, around 1am, reporting a possible disappearance.<br>&#8216;The disappearance was reported to have occurred on March 17, 2026, at 3am, in the Port Olympic area.&#8217;<br>The nightclub&#8217;s management told police that it preserved surveillance footage covering Monday night through Tuesday morning, which they are ready to provide along with other details deemed necessary in their investigation.</p>
