<p>A disturbing 911 call detailed the moments immediately after Virginia&#8217;s former Lieutenant Governor killed his wife and himself in a murder suicide.<br>Justin Fairfax, a Democrat, 47, shot his dentist spouse Dr. Cerina Fairfax, 49, dead in their home in Annandale, Fairfax County, in the early hours of Thursday. He then turned the gun on himself.<br>Their son Cameron called 911 just after midnight after he discovered his mother&#8217;s blood-covered body lying on the floor.</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size"><strong>Fairfax County police called out to a residence in Annandale on Thursday morning, following reports of a domestic violence at the home of former Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax, found both homeowners fatally shot</strong></p>



<p>A dispatcher detailed how the 16-year-old teen said that his dad &#8216;might have stabbed his mom&#8217;. <br>The dispatcher said Cameron had told them that Cerina was &#8216;lying on the ground bleeding&#8217; and he could &#8216;see holes in her shirt.&#8217;<br>Cameron added that he did not know where his father was.<br>Responding officers discovered Cerina bleeding, unconscious and bleeding in the unfinished basement of the home.<br>&#8216;The husband&#8217;s not gonna be here. It&#8217;s gonna look like an obvious D.O.A.,&#8217; a responding medic told dispatch, adding the victim &#8216;doesn&#8217;t have a pulse.&#8217; <br>Fairfax was found in his bedroom with the firearm and appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size"><strong>Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau of the <strong>Fairfax County PD in Virginia,</strong> were seen securing and collecting evidence from the family&#8217;s home in Annandale</strong></p>



<p>Cameron, 16, and his sister Carys, 14, both at home at the time of the murder, were unharmed and now in the care of relatives, with victim services providing cover.<br>Officials with the Fairfax County coroner&#8217;s office were seen removing bodies from the home. Autopsies will be conducted to determine the couple&#8217;s exact cause of deaths.<br>The circumstances leading up to the deadly shooting remain under investigation. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the community. Crime scene investigators have cordoned off the residence and remain on scene as they carry out their investigation into the horrific shooting.</p>

<p>The couple had been married for 20 years but were in the midst of what Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis called a seemingly &#8216;complicated or messy divorce.&#8217; <br>&#8216;It is high profile in nature, it&#8217;s tragic in nature. Certainly a fall from grace for a relatively high profile family that seemingly had a lot of things going in their favor,&#8217; Davis said during a press briefing Thursday. <br>&#8216;So tragic for the children to lose both parents, extra tragic for them to actually be in the home when it occurred.&#8217; <br>Cerina, 49, filed for divorce from Fairfax last year and the proceedings were underway at the time of their deaths, with court appearances pending for next week.<br>Fairfax was recently served paperwork indicating when he was next due to appear in court which investigators say &#8216;may have been a spark&#8217; to the deadly act of violence. <br>The couple had been living together despite being separated and were understood to have separate bedrooms, police said. <br>They pair reportedly been separated since June 2024, although the reason for their split was not immediately clear. </p>

<p>Davis said his officers responded to the home in January this year after Fairfax alleged that Cerina assaulted him inside the home.<br>Investigators determined that the alleged assault never occurred and no arrests were made, police said.<br>Fairfax, a former federal prosecutor and civil litigator, served as Virginia&#8217;s lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022. <br>Having served as the state&#8217;s second most powerful lawmaker under then-governor Ralph Northam,<br>Fairfax launched his own bid for governor in 2021, but finished fourth in the Democratic primary after his campaign was heavily overshadowed by sexual assault allegations from two women. <br>Terry McAuliffe won the Democratic nomination. However, McAuliffe lost the general election to Republican, Glenn Youngkin.</p>

In 2015 she was honored by Virginia Commonwealth as its most outstanding alumna of the last decade. <br>In recent years, Justin Fairfax had been working as a lawyer in private practice. However, according Recent court filings described how, since leaving office, Fairfax had increasingly struggled “with undefined emotional and psychological issues.”<br>A March 30 order written by Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Timothy J. McEvoy, states that the politician had withdrawn from the family, was drinking heavily and was leaving bills unpaid, while Dr. Fairfax, a dentist who ran her own practice, took care of the children, culminating in the couple&#8217;s estrangement.<br>With their marriage hitting rough times, Fairfax in January called police to report that he had been assaulted by his wife. <br>The allegation was proven to be false after police reviewed footage from surveillance cameras installed in the home by Dr Fairfax in the wake of the divorce filing.<br>A judge granted Dr. Fairfax primary physical custody of the children and ordered Justin Fairfax to move out of the house by the end of April.<br>According to Chief Davis, early Thursday, two weeks before that deadline, Fairfax shot his wife in the house’s unfinished basement and then went upstairs to his bedroom, where he shot himself.<br></p>
