<p>A Massachusetts mother-of-two said she strangled her two children to death and tried to take her own life because she wanted the three of them &#8216;to go to God together,&#8217; according to a police report. <br>Janette MacAusland, a 49-year-old Boston based acupuncturist, <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2026/04/27/metro/mass-mother-charged-with-killing-her-two-children/">admitted to killing</a> her seven-year-old son Kai and six-year-old daughter Ella in her bed at the family&#8217;s home in Wellesley, Massachusetts, on Friday, April 24.<br>After the horrific act, she raced across state lines to her aunt&#8217;s home in Bennington, Vermont in a hysterical state, banged on the window, and confessed to the crime. </p>

<p>Police say she told her aunt that she killed her kids and tried to take end own life. The aunt then called police. <br>When Bennington police arrived, they say MacAusland admitted to the murders. Officers say she had a holiday photo of the family with her.<br>&#8216;I strangled them and then I tried to kill myself,&#8217; she told an officer with the Bennington Police Department. <br>&#8216;I wanted the three of us to go to God together but it didn&#8217;t work,&#8217; MacAusland added, per the report. <br>She was seen with a visible bloody neck injury in her mugshot.</p>

<p>Her aunt also reported that MacAusland said she drove to the Quechee Gorge Bridge and tried to jump off, but couldn’t go through with it.<br>After hearing her chilling confession, authorities in Vermont immediately notified police in Massachusetts, who conducted a welfare check on the couple&#8217;s home in the affluent Boston suburb and discovered the children deceased.<br>Contrary to bragging about her estranged husband being a good father and partner online before things fell apart, the MacAusland&#8217;s marriage was crumbling when Janette allegedly killed her two young children inside their $1.5 million family home. <br>Janette MacAusland, 49, was in the middle of a bitter divorce with her husband ,Samuel MacAusland, 62, when she was arrested on Saturday in connection with the horror deaths of their children, Kai and Ella, when she allegedly killed their children.</p>

<p>Janette MacAusland was arrested on Saturday in connection with the horror deaths of their children, Kai and Ella, and charged with two counts of murder. <br>She attended a court hearing in Rutland, Vermont, on Monday, donning a green anti-suicide smock. She also covered her face at times and appeared emotional. <br>During the hearing, she agreed to be extradited back to Massachusetts to face the murder charges.<br>Sandra Mattison, MacAusland&#8217;s aunt, told police she did not initially recognize her niece when she arrived on her doorstep. <a href="https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-15766859/wellesley-massachusetts-mother-children-murder-acupunturist.html"></a><br>Realizing who it was, she let her in, then MacAusland told her that she killed her children and tried to take her own life. <br>Mattison specifically recalled seeing the &#8216;dried&#8217; blood on the neck before MacAusland revealed she tried to harm herself. <br>Questioned on the whereabouts of her husband, MacAusland replied, &#8216;He was at the lake.&#8217;<br>&#8216;I asked her where her children were and she told me that she had killed them,&#8217; Mattison told police. <br>Her aunt also revealed that MacAusland tried to jump from Vermont&#8217;s Quechee Gorge Bridge, but couldn&#8217;t go through with it, Mattison&#8217;s statement continued. </p>

<p>The now estranged couple were married in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, in February 2016. Before their marriage took an ugly turn, MacAusland gloated about her husband online, calling him a good partner and father to their kids. <br>The bubble burst in October 2025 when Samuel filed for divorce from Janette, citing &#8216;irretrievable breakdown&#8217; of the marriage. <br>The legal battle that ensued spread to feuding over the custody of their children, one in second grade and the other in kindergarten at Schofield Elementary School.<br>The courtroom battle expanded in recent months to the control of their $1.5 million marital home in the affluent Boston suburb of Wellesley.<br>Early in April 2026, the couple agreed to a court-appointed guardian looking after the best interests of their children. The process of appointing the guardian was scheduled to start just days before the children were killed. </p>

<p>Janette MacAusland was listed as an acupuncturist with New England Integrated Health, which has since removed her bio from their listing. <br>She also worked at Massachusetts General Hospital and founded Boston Acupuncture Trauma Relief after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, her profile said<br>While his father, William &#8216;Bill&#8217; MacAusland Jr, was a distinguished orthopedic surgeon in the Boston area, Samuel&#8217;s occupation remains unclear. <br>While the investigation remains ongoing, a growing memorial has since appeared outside the family home, with locals leaving flowers, stuffed animals, and heartfelt messages in honor of Kai and Ella. </p>
