<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Angelynn Mock, a former news anchor of a local ;Fox affiliate in Missouri, has confessed to stabbing her elderly mother to death with four kitchen knives and a cheese grater. ;<br>Mock, 48, pled guilty to first-degree murder on Friday afternoon in the grisly death of her mother, Anita Avers, in Wichita, Kansas. ;With her plea on first-degree murder accepted, she is facing a possible life sentence with parole eligibility after 25 years at sentencing which is scheduled for October 5.<br>Officers report finding the 80-year-old unresponsive in her bed, wearing just underwear and a bra, ;on October 31, 2025 &#8211; with multiple stab wounds to her face and torso, according to an affidavit. <br>Several kitchen knives and a cheese grater were found &#8216;laid out on a pillow&#8217; next to the defendant&#8217;s mother in bed, and &#8216;all the utensils had blood on them,&#8217; court documents read. ;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Angelynn Mock, a news anchor at Missouri&#8217;s St Louis local station Fox 2 from 2011 to 2015, called 911 herself, immediately proffering self-defense, she told a dispatcher that &#8216;her mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return,&#8217; the affidavit stated. ;<br>When officers from the Wichita Police Department arrived at Avers&#8217; home, they found her daughter outside holding a towel to her bloody hand.<br>The injured senior was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she later expired. ;<br>Meanwhile, Mock told police that before the stabbing, she entered her mother&#8217;s bedroom and found her &#8216;sharpening knives&#8217; before Avers &#8216;came after her with a knife and fought her,&#8217; per the affidavit. ;</p>

<p class="has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Mock told cops when her mother came at her, she pushed her mother back who then said: &#8216;I know you&#8217;re f***ing Jesus Christ,&#8217; that she backed off, but her mother continued to follow her, so she grabbed a knife &#8216;and got on top of her,&#8217; adding that she stabbed her mother because she &#8216;started spewing venom at me out of her f***ing mouth&#8217;</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Responding to the call police met Mock outside the Wichita home holding a towel to her bloody hands. Officers found her mother <strong> </strong>unresponsive in her bed, wearing just underwear and a bra. The 80-year-old had suffered multiple stab wounds to her face and torso, according to an affidavit. <br>Mock told officers she pushed her mother back as Avers told her: &#8216;I know you&#8217;re f***ing Jesus Christ,&#8217; police recorded. ;<br>The former anchor then told officers she backed off, but her mother continued to follow her, so she grabbed a knife &#8216;and got on top of her,&#8217; the affidavit detailed. ;<br>At the time, Mock said she stabbed her mother because she &#8216;started spewing venom at me out of her f***ing mouth,&#8217; according to the documents. ;<br>Later on, she told police that she entered her mother&#8217;s bedroom that day to discuss an &#8216;upcoming job interview with local NBC affiliate, KSN &#8211; because she was a news anchor,&#8217; police said. ;<br>She was employed as a sales employee at a data management software company at the time of her arrest, according to <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/entertainment/angelynn-mock-former-news-anchor-charged-murder-10980870" target="_blank" rel="noopener" class="">Newsweek</a>, citing her now-deleted LinkedIn profile. ;<br>After telling her mother about the job prospect, Mock said Avers, who was &#8216;sharpening knives with bigger knives,&#8217; said she was jealous and did not want her to get the job, the affidavit stated. ;<br>Officers also spoke with Barry Avers, Anita&#8217;s husband, who was at work at the time of her murder. ;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Officers also spoke with Barry Avers, Anita&#8217;s husband, who was at work at the time of her murder. ;He told police his stepdaughter was employed at the St Louis station, &#8216;before being laid off, after an explosive situation involving alcohol.&#8217; <br>He explained that Mock moved in with them about four to five years earlier. His late wife he said, had tried to get her daughter to seek mental health treatment because she was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder.<br>He told police that the bipolar diagnosis was later changed to schizoaffective disorder, a condition that exhibits mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms, per the affidavit. ;<br>To his knowledge, his stepdaughter was on medication after experiencing &#8217;bouts of delusions mixed with periods of depression,&#8217; police said. ;<br>Approximately a month before killing her mother, Mock grew angry during a family card game, Barry recalled. ;<br>She began complaining that everyone hated her and she hated them too, and told her relatives: &#8216;They&#8217;re all robots&#8217; and &#8216;They&#8217;re not real people.&#8217; <br>Barry also told authorities that he knew that Mock would often &#8216;claim to be spiritual and talk to God&#8217; and also said she was &#8216;Anti-Christ,&#8217; the affidavit stated. ;<br>Mock&#8217;s outbursts often take place while she was on her stationary exercise bicycle, according to her stepdad.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">From the crime scene Mock was also taken to the hospital before being transported to ;the Wichita Police Department Investigation Section. ;While she was in the interview room at the facility, Mock spoke to herself several times, stating that she believed her mother was the devil.<br>During the interview Mock according to the affidavit said: &#8216;I&#8217;d kill that b**** to have my mom back any day. I don&#8217;t even know who she is anymore. I know, believe she&#8217;s the devil.&#8217;  ;<br>Before entering her guilty plea, Mock was ordered to undergo a competency evaluation to see if she was fit to stand trial. In July, a judge ruled she was competent to stand trial. ;However, she has since waived her right to a trial and will be sentenced on October 5. ;</p>
