<p>Hollywood A-lister Charlize Theron looked a million dollars at the Oscars in her plunging red gown. But it has emerged that the figure for her new film looked nowhere near as good as Dark Places took just £625 in its opening weekend at the UK box office.<br />
If cinema tickets were priced an average £8 ($8.70), it would mean only 78 people watched the flop.<br />
A source said: “The movie was in cinemas for three weeks before it got pulled. It literally took £625, less than Charlize earns for an hour’s work. It has now gone on release on DVD but it’s a turkey.”<br />
The 40-year-old actress, who won an Oscar for Monster in 2003, starred with Brit Nicholas Hoult, 26. The thriller was a Gillian Flynn Adaptation but failed to repeat the success of Gone Girl.<br />

It did better in the US, making over $160,000 from 151 venues over two weeks. But it is still nearly as bad as Danny Dyer’s 2013 flop Run For Your Wife, which banked just £602 at the UK box office.<br />
Luckily, Charlize has a few strings to her bow. Last year, she starred opposite Tom Hardy, 38, in Mad Max: Fury Road – the best performer at the Oscars<br />

<p>It took six awards: Best Costume Design, Production Design, Makeup &; Hairstyling, Film Editing and both Sound Mixing and Editing.<br />
And she is highly regarded by the Academy, which asked her to present Best Original Screenplay at the bash earlier this week.</p>
<p>Charlize has recently spoken out about the lack of “female-driven” films. A study found 2% of protagonists in last year’s top 100 grossing films were women.<br />

Despite her flop setback, Charlize – who split with actor Sean Penn last year – looked happy as she stepped out in Hollywood with a mystery man on Monday.</p>
