<p class="mol-para-with-font">A brawl broke out at an Alabama city council meeting after the mayor punched a city council member in the face and several others joined in.<br />
Alexander City councilman Tony Goss claimed that Mayor Charles Shaw punched him as Monday night&#8217;s meeting came to an end, so he decided to punch back.<br />
The fight occurred after a heated discussion about firing the city&#8217;s finance director, Sandra Machen.<br />
&#8216;The mayor has an objective of firing her because she&#8217;s on to something he doesn&#8217;t want her on to. He wants to pursue this witch hunt,&#8217; Goss said, not revealing what Machen had allegedly found out. &#8216;I believe 100 per cent of the council knew that.<br />
An argument followed the discussion, with Goss shouting, &#8216;You&#8217;re a dictator&#8217;, and Shaw responding, &#8216;You&#8217;re a liar&#8217;.|The men had different takes on how the dispute turned physical.<br />
Goss said he was trying to apologize to some state auditors who were present at the meeting when Shaw punched him the face. He said he punched back.Shaw claimed that the incident occurred after Goss swore at his wife, adding that he&#8217;d hit Goss again he swears at his wife in the future.<br />
Goss told AL.com that Shaw&#8217;s wife and a friend allegedly joined in on the brawl and kicked him while other people at the meeting tried to separate them.<br />
No one was seriously injured in the brawl, but Goss said he left with light abrasions and was checked out at the hospital.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">He added that he had filed a police report and intends to press charges. Shaw, however, considers the police report an empty threat and is not concerned, according to reports.<br />
Goss said that Shaw fired Machen in 2015, but the council reinstated her shortly thereafter, citing that the mayor did not have the authority to fire her.<br />
Shaw, however, claimed Machen had changed her pay and had email evidence showing that she lied.<br />
He claimed Machen was &#8216;in over her head&#8217; in the job and was two years behind on an audit.<br />
Machen, however, told Alexcityoutlook.com that she is &#8216;just one person&#8217; and that the city was &#8216;two years behind&#8217; when she started.<br />
Other council members were embarrassed with the city leaders following the brawl.<br />
&#8216;I&#8217;m done,&#8217; councilmemeber Sherry Ellison-Simpson told Alexcityoutlook.com. &#8216;This is ridiculous. You can&#8217;t even do what you were elected to do. There is no excuse for his. Alexander City deserves better.&#8217;<br />
&#8216;I was planning to run again, but I really don&#8217;t think I will&#8217; Billy Ray Wall told the media site. &#8216;It&#8217;s just a shame. We were elected to do a job and this stuff just keeps us from doing that.&#8217;</p>
