<article id="ra-body">A Tennessee sixth-grader, Timea Batts, was tragically shot by her father when she came home from her first day of middle school, Monday. Timothy Batts, 29, was charged in the Monday slaying of 11-year-old Timea, after he claimed someone shot his little girl as she walked home from the bus stop.<br />

Timothy Batts initially denied the shooting and told the authorities that his daughter was shot outside the home, after getting off of the school bus. However, it appears detectives later determined the little Timea was shot in the home.<br />
“The child came in home from school. He was at the home and he shot the child,” Detective Sgt. Jim Vaughn<br />
“There was no evidence that was his plan. It wasn’t premeditated,” he added.<br />
Timea’s father drove her to Hendersonville Medical Center, where medics transported her to University Medical Center. Two hours later, she died of her injuries.<br />

<p>Jeremy Johnson, a spokesperson for Sumner County Schools, said in a statement.&#8221;Our entire school district is grieved to learn of the tragic loss of one of our sixth grade students, Timea Lashay Batts,&#8221; &#8220;Timea was a bright and kind girl who was well loved by her classmates and teachers.&#8221;<br />
Batts told police his daughter came home from school around 3:30 p.m. Monday bleeding. Someone had shot her between the bus stop and their house, where Timea lived with her father, his partner and her two younger siblings.<br />
The dad drove the girl from the home in Hendersonville to a local hospital, where she died from the gunshot wound to her torso. But investigators later determined Timea had been shot inside the house, not in front of it, as Batts had claimed.</p>

<p>Batts who has a prior record of attempted criminal homicide for allegedly shooting a driver in Nashville, was arrested and booked on charges that include reckless homicide, false reporting, tampering with evidence and felon in possession of a firearm. He was being held in lieu of $1 million bond at Sumner County jail</p>
