<article id="ra-body">In a move rarely undertaken by New York Police Department, a supervisor has been placed on modified duty, his gun and shield taken away. High-ranking Bronx cop, Keith Walton, 44, has been relieved of his duties over allegations he had sex with a female subordinate inside his office, law-enforcement said,Thursday.<br />
Deputy Inspector Keith Walton, who took over as commanding officer at the 49th in July 2015, was stripped of his badge and gun and assigned to desk duty in another Bronx station house on Wednesday, the sources added.<br />
Walton, a 20-year veteran who was recently promoted from captain is suspected of being involved in at least one office escapade. He allegedly, had been accused by a woman of sexual misconduct, police sources said.<br />
A female officer was interviewed Monday by the Internal Affairs Bureau’s “Group 1”, which investigates misconduct allegations against NYPD senior officers. Her role in the case has not been specified. By Thursday, NYPD brass stripped Walton, a Bronx precinct commander of his gun and shield.<br />
Deputy Inspector Keith Walton was also transferred to a desk job outside the 49th Precinct in the borough’s northeast section as a departmental probe of his alleged behavior continued.</p>

<p>The accusing officer remained on the job in the Bronx precinct, because relocating the accuser to another precinct could have been read as a punitive move against her.<br />
Full details of the allegations has not been released as the Internal Affairs Bureau conducted a sexual misconduct investigation. The name of the accuser, who IAB has been interviewed is withheld until the exact nature of the allegations is clarified.<br />
Roy Richter, head of the Captains Endowment Association, which represents captains and above, described Walton as a role model and a real NYPD success story. Walton was the first black commander of the 49th Precinct.<br />
“DI Walton is a veteran commander who excels in the community driven focus of the department,” Richter said in a statement.</p>

<p>Walton, 44, broke up with his longtime, live-in girlfriend earlier this year, and is currently in the middle of a custody battle over their 16-year-old son. He joined the NYPD in 1996 following a stint in the Cadet Corps. A hard worker known for putting in extraordinarily long hours, he was promoted in September from captain to deputy inspector. Following his promotion he was quoted as saying “all the hard work and sacrifice really paid off,” and credited “strong support from the upper echelon of the department and the community.”</p>

<p>Late last year, when 7-year-old Tyrone Lowe found himself an orphan.( pictured with then Capt Keith Walton), his father having just killed himself with a gunshot wound to the head only after taking the life of his then girlfriend and Tyrone’s mother just days earlier, Walton came to the rescue.Captain Keith Walton raised $5,000 to help a 7-year-old Bronx orphan move forward after the murder-suicide of his mother and father.<br />
The well known volunteer basketball coach and mentor for local youths, at various points in his NYPD career had served at the 32nd Precinct in Manhattan and the 40th and 46th Precincts in the Bronx, before he was elevated to over commanding officer at the 49th Precinct in 2015. Walton who once said “Not that I want to pat myself on the back or toot my own horn, but throughout New York City there isn’t a command that reaches out to its community like the 49th Precinct,” took a lot of pride in the community outreach of his command<br />
He hoped to eventually head up the NYPD’ s Community Affairs Bureau, Walton said.<br />
“I’d like to take the experiences I have had on a more local level and take that with me as I hope to help not just one area or precinct but the city as a whole,” he said.</p>
