Three people are dead and two are wounded, including a two-year-old boy who was shot five times, after a gunman opened fire inside a Kansas City, Missouri apartment on Thursday.
Two-year old Karson Southerland, who managed to survive the ordeal which claimed the life of his 20-year-old mother Ali Renee Brown, about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 12.
Brown, a former cheerleader who graduated from high school just two years ago, had recently moved from the St. Louis suburbs to Kansas City, seeking a fresh start.
‘She was very happy and very outgoing,’ brother Trent Brown said in a Tuesday interview with the Kansas City Star. ‘She would do anything for anyone.’

On Thursday night, neighbors reported hearing at least five gunshots in the apartment complex around 9:30.
Officers responded to the scene, at the Trails at the Ridge apartment complex, shortly before 10 p.m.
There, they found Thomas and one of the women dead. Another woman was rushed to the hospital, where she died.
Police have made few details of the case public, saying only that they are seeking three male suspects who may have been driving a black or blue four-door vehicle.

‘Ali was an outgoing young lady who definitely lived out loud,’ an obituary from Baue Funeral & Memorial Center read. ‘Ali is gone too soon, but her memory and her vibrant spirit will live on through all of those who loved her.’

No arrestes have been made in the case. Kansas City is one of seven cities driving a national spike in homicides, accoring to an FBI 2016 report.
There were 127 homicides in Kansas City last year, the highest number since 1998 and a stunning 60 percent increase from the city’s historic low rate in 2014, according to city police data.
