<p class="imageCaption">A middle school teacher from Virginia is facing up to two decades in jail over a sordid affair she had with a 13-year-old student for more than a year.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Amelia Tat, 27, confessed to two counts of carnal knowledge without force of a 13 to 15-year-old when she appeared in Albemarle Circuit Court last Friday.<br />
Tat, who was a teacher at Jack Jouett Middle School, admitted to having sex multiple times with the student &#8211; with the first incident taking place in 2015, according to <a class="" href="http://www.nbc29.com/story/34363269/former-teacher-enters-guilty-plea-in-albemarle-co-court" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">WVIR</a>.<br />
In the months leading up to the first time Tat and the student had sex, she had began sending him messages over Instagram and Snapchat. Tat told the teenager in those online chats that she had feelings for him. Eventually, in an online chat, she confessed to having feelings for the teenager.<br />
Then, she asked him to &#8216;stay late and help her after class&#8217; one day, which led to them having sex.</p>

The teacher &#8211; student affair continued with Tat sending inappropriate text messages, and the pair had sex again. The pair had sex at the teachers&#8217;s house in Lynchburg, Virginia, at a later date, as well as after one of the boy&#8217;s basketball games. The affair ended after the teenager&#8217;s mother discovered messages from Tat on her son&#8217;s phone, she then called law enforcement.<br />
Police arrested then 26-year-old Tat, on June 29, 2016.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Tat had just completed her first year as a science teacher at Nelson County High School and she also served as an assistant girls soccer coach, according to the <a id="ext-gen89" class="" href="http://www.dailyprogress.com/news/crime/ex-jack-jouett-teacher-accused-of-sexual-activity-with-a/article_26b9760a-3e51-11e6-b153-9b67b73cde9c.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Daily Progress</a>.<br />
Albemarle County police charged her with two felony counts of carnal knowledge of a minor, and one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship. Lynchburg police also charged her with one felony count of carnal knowledge of a minor that was incorporated into her plea deal.<br />
Tat faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail, and a fine of $200,000.<br />
Sentencing is scheduled for May 1.</p>
