<p>A 19,year-old Ohio woman described by prosecutors as a &#8216;depraved teenager&#8217; who live-streamed a video of her friend being raped by a man has been jailed for just nine months.<br />
Marina Lonina was sentenced in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday after accepting a deal with the prosecution and pleading guilty to obstructing justice.<br />
Initially, Lonina faced 40 years in prison for charges of rape , kidnap, and sexual battery, same as the actual rapist. She was also charged with illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance, related to the alleged use of the social media livestreaming app Periscope. She had entered a not-guilty plea all counts.</p>

<p>An Ohio teen Marina Lonina, who pleaded guilty to one count of obstructing justice under a deal with prosecutors after she was accused of using the social media app Periscope to livestream images of Raymond Gates raping a 17-year-old girl on Feb. 27, 2016. Lonina was sentenced Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, to nine months in prison. Gates pleaded guilty to one count of rape and was sentenced last year Oct. 12, to nine years in prison.<br />
The rape of her then 17-year-old friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was filmed while using the social media app Periscope last February. It was spotted by an out-of-state friend of the victim on the app, who reported what they had seen to police.<br />
The two teenagers, then 18 and 17, allegedly met Raymond Gates, 29, while they were out shopping.<br />
The next day, they went to his apartment where, according to a prosecutor, they “drank alcohol until the victim was heavily intoxicated”.<br />
Gates then forced himself on the younger girl while Lonina filmed through Periscope, an app for smartphones which uses a video function to allow users to stream events live.<br />
Lonina and co-defendant Gates, both were charged with rape, kidnapping, sexual battery and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor. The alleged rape involved intercourse by force, according to the indictment.<br />
Gates was sentenced in October to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of rape in the case.</p>

<p>When Lonina was first arrested last year, the case pivoted on the question of whether she deserved the same punishment as Gates, despite having no physical involvement in the act itself.<br />
Initially, Lonina claimed she livestreamed the attack to help the victim. However, as her defense attorney Sam Shamansky stated, Lonina admitted to failing to report the rape or turn over her evidence afterward. She got “caught up in the likes” and was “giggling and laughing” as she used her phone to film the assault, Shamansky said.<br />
The victim was said to be clearly screaming “stop” and “no&#8221;.<br />
By agreeing to the plea bargain, Lonina admitted she failed to report the rape or to turn over evidence after it happened.</p>
