<div>The murder trial of a Texas man accused of stabbing to death his girlfriend began Tuesday with the presentation of an audio recording of the defendant’s police interview, in which he outlined how he and the victim had planned to commit suicide together.</div>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Kenneth Amyx, 46, told detectives after his arrest last May that he and Jennifer Streit-Spears, 43, had agreed to stab each other to death and go to heaven.<br />
&#8216;I cut you, you cut me, I cut you, you cut me,&#8217; Amyx was heard telling cops on the audio recording that was played in court on Day 1 of his trial.<br />

<p class="mol-para-with-font">According to Amyx, his partner in the pact Streit-Spears became too weak from blood loss after he&#8217;d sliced her neck and could not go through with her end of the agreement,<br />
Evidence presented by prosecutors on Tuesday indicated that the victim was so intoxicated on the day of the killing that her reactions were slower than normal, reported the <a class="" href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2017/05/09/man-trial-killing-girlfriend-told-police-couples-grisly-suicide-pact" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dallas Morning News.<br />
</a>Fugitive Amyx, told investigators he&#8217;d been living with Streit-Spears at her Plano apartment for a few months when they made a mutual death pact &#8211; he was on the run from police after being accused of molesting a young girl in Dallas and Rockwall counties, while Streit-Spears&#8217; rent was due in a couple of days and she was out of money, Amyx told police.<br />
Overwhelmed by their situation, they made their bizarre arrangement: &#8220;Why don&#8217;t we just off ourselves?&#8221;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Amyx granted the interview to detectives from his hospital bed, where he was treated after the cutting incident.<br />
They had been drinking vodka on the morning of May 29, 2016, he said. They got two knives from the kitchen and they took turns slicing into each other.<br />
Streit-Spears became weak however, after he made a forceful incision on the back of her neck. So he grabbed the hand in which she held the knife and cut himself on the neck, too, Amyx to;d police.<br />
Next, he posted photos of the blood-covered images on her Facebook page and texted one of them to her mother.<br />
Amyx then called his own father and said, &#8216;This is Ken. I love you. We’ve cut our throats,&#8217; before hanging up.<br />
Streit-Spears&#8217; sister saw the Facebook pictures and called police, who had to force their way into the couple&#8217;s apartment.<br />
When police called to the victim&#8217;s apartment, officers found the couple lying naked and bleeding on the floor.<br />
Amyx was on top of Streit-Spears, and was holding a knife in his right hand. Another knife was under him, according to an affidavit.<br />
As Amyx was being transported to a hospital, he reportedly lamented: &#8216;Oh I killed her, oh I lost her. I’ll never get her back,&#8217; begging a paramedic to &#8216;Just kill me.&#8217;<br />
During his interrogation, the audio recording of which was played in court on Tuesday, Amyx said he and Streit-Spears had initially decided to run away together before making the decision to end it all.</p>

<strong>Jennifer Streit-Spears suffered more than a dozen cuts, including two gaping wounds to her neck and right wrist, and the high levels of alcohol in her system opened up her blood vessels, which made her bleed out faster during the stabbing</strong></h6>
<p class="mol-para-with-font">The gruesome photographs stayed on Facebook for nearly 36 hours inspite of the several attempts by the family to have them removed.<br />
When she died,Streit-Spears had a blood alcohol level of 0.39, said Collin County medical examiner William Rohr, who testified that Streit-Spears died of multiple sharp force injuries in conjunction with acute alcohol toxicity.<br />
Rohr explained that the alcohol not only affected her motor skills and reasoning but it also opened up her blood vessels, which accelerated her bleeding. Streit-Spears had more than a dozen incisions, cuts and scratches on her body. The most severe wounds were two gaping incisions, one on her neck and another on her right wrist.<br />
Presenting the prosecution&#8217;s case, Douglas Millican told the court: &#8220;Kenneth Amyx was in charge of the situation&#8221;.<br />
Amyx&#8217;s attorney plans to mount an insanity defense on behalf of his client, who has been diagnosed with a bipolar disorder but was ruled competent to stand trial.<br />
If convicted of murder, Amyx faces up to a life in prison.</p>
