A mother-of-two was arrested on suspicion of child abuse after allegedly locking her two young kids in a trunk while she shopped, in Utah.
was held on the child abuse suspicion after cops say she locked her two children, ages five and two, in the trunk of her Chevrolet sedan and went shopping inside the Walmart store in Riverdale, Utah on Thursday.
The children were rescued when witnesses in the parking lot heard two children making noise from inside the trunk and saw the Chevrolet sedan shaking, according to ABC 4.
The stunned onlookers talked the older kid, a five-year-old boy, through opening the trunk by using the emergency latch. They also called 911.
An incensed witness, Charity Maw told ABC: “I was shocked, I was shaken, and I was mad,” she said.
Maw, who was in the parking lot when she heard children pounding against the car trunk from the inside, “The little girl’s voice. Just screaming, let me out! I’m scared,” added Maw.
Castillo, 39, remains jailed on suspicion of child abuse after being arrested Thursday around 6pm when she returned to the car.

‘Several Good Samaritans observed this and came to the aid of the children,’ said Police Lt. Casey Warren, according to the Deseret News.
Riverdale police Lt. Casey Warren said police were dispatched to the Riverdale Wal-Mart after a witness called police, claiming to see a woman lock two children in her car before she left to go shopping.
The children, ages 2 and 5, began making noise and moving frantically, causing the vehicle to shake, Warren said.
“Several good Samaritans observed this and came to the aid of the children,” Warren said.
One of the witnesses, Charity Maw, said she was in the parking lot when she heard crying and pounding coming from the trunk.
‘I was shocked, I was shaken, and I was mad,’ she told ABC 4. ‘And there’s two kids there, tears coming down their face. Bawling. They were scared. The little girl’s voice. Just screaming, ‘Let me out! I’m scared.”

‘I wouldn’t lock a dog in a trunk, let alone a kid,’ said Maw.
Another witness told KSTU that when Castillo returned to the scene, she said her babysitter had failed to show.
‘It’s never right to lock a child inside of a vehicle, let alone a trunk of a vehicle. Obviously there’s a lot of things that could go wrong,’ Warren told the outlet. ‘The fumes from the cars passing by, they could suffer carbon monoxide poisoning.
Warren says the state child welfare was contacted.
Castillo has not been officially charged, while the children aheve been placed in the custody of their father.
