The Cleveland cop who fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice has been fired, authorities said Tuesday.<br />
Timothy Loehmann, a member of the Cleveland police department lost his job 2 1/2 years after Tamir was gunned down inside a park while playing with a pellet gun. His partner, Frank Garmback, was hit with a 10-day suspension, authorities said.</div>

<p class="video-desc">However, in an earlier statement released in April by the The Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association the findings of a review committee impaneled by Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams at Mayor Frank Jackson’s request to investigate the officers’ conduct had found that Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback, the two officers directly involved in the shooting,of the officers involved in the shooting that killed Tamir Rice in 2014 did not violate department rules.<br />
The committee which consisted of police command staff, civilians and police officers, in their unanimous report stated that neither Garmback nor Loehmann violated apparent rule or policies and their actions were consistent with training.<br />

<p class="video-desc"> A 2015 grand jury opted not to indict Loehmann or Garmback on criminal charges. In a rather quixotic approach to retribution, Loehmann was let go for providing false information about his personal history in his application to join the police force, authorities said.<br />
Cleveland city officials met Tuesday in a news conference to provide an update on disciplinary action against the officers involved in the shooting death of Tamir Rice.<br />
During that news conference, officials announced the firing of Officer Timothy Loehmann and 10-day suspension of Officer Frank Garmback.</p>

<p class="image-credit-wrap">Rice, 12, was shot and killed by Garmback and Loehmann on Nov. 22, 2014 outside Cudell Recreation Center. The officers were called to the scene on a report of a person waving a gun, which turned out to be an airsoft weapon.<br />
Loehmann will be fired, effective immediately, and Garmback will be suspended 10 days starting Wednesday. He&#8217;ll also be required to attend additional tactical training.<br />
Officials said the officers did not violate any rules other than failing to inform communications of their position during the moments leading up to the shooting.</p>

The investigation was later passed on to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor and Sheriff&#8217;s officers.<br />
The Prosecutor&#8217;s office decided not to pursue charges against the officers involved, Loehmann [photo], and Garmback.<br />
A review committee looked at the case until August 2016 to draft a report, which was presented to Chief Calvin Williams. After Williams&#8217; review, the report was sent to the Director of Public Safety for administrative hearings on both officers.<br />
Last month, video of the officers&#8217; administrative hearings was made public.<br />
Garmback told investigators he didn&#8217;t know Rice was a child at the time of the shooting while Loehmann told officials, &#8220;I thought I was going to die.&#8221;<br />
Ironically, just as the officer involved in the fatal shooting of the minor and his partner were both being given a clean bill of health, the dispatcher Constance Hollinger, who fielded the precipitating 911 call, was suspended eight days.<br />
She was indicted for failing to relay critical information to officers Loehmann and Garmback during the incident. Hollinger was charged administratively for having failed to convey a 911 caller&#8217;s information that Tamir was &#8220;probably a juvenile&#8221; and that his toy gun was &#8220;probably a fake.&#8221;<br />
A patrol officer, William Cunningham also received a two-day suspension, but not for the shooting incident, rather Cunningham was not found guilty of lying to investigators. He was disciplined for working a second job without departmental permission. After Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams the administrative upbraids, Tamir&#8217;s mom Samaria Rice speaking through her attorneys, described the outcome internal administrative procedure by Cleveland police as &#8216;Unacceptable.&#8217;</div>

The family&#8217;s attorney Subodh Chandra, said:<em>&#8220;</em>If this is the best that system can offer, then the system is broken.&#8221; he said.<em><br />
</em> &#8220;Fat chance of this absurd discipline deterring anyone from anything other than continued incompetence and indifference. That the dispatcher still has her job when a child is dead speaks volumes about accountability in Cleveland.&#8221;<br />
Samaria Rice had called for her son&#8217;s killer officer Loehmann and his partner Garmbach to be fired.<br />
Today, Police Chief Williams said the department may have discovered Loehmann&#8217;s application error eventually, but the investigation into the Rice shooting facilitated the process.<br />
The Rice family settled a lawsuit with the City of Cleveland for six million dollars.</div>
