Serial killer Karla Homolka struck a conroversial plea deal in 1993 which reduced her murder charges to double manslaughter conviction and reduced sentencing.
She eventually served 12 years in prison after being convicted of raping, torturing and killing schoolgirls Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy with her then-husband Paul Bernardo.
She also played a role in the death of her 15-year-old sister Tammy after she helped Bernardo drug, rape and ultimately kill her.
Homolka, who split from Bernardo while in jail, was released in 2005 and married her lawyer’s brother Thierry Bordelais.

At the time, Karla claimed she was as much a victim of Bernado’s murderous schemes. She had claimed that Bernardo had abused her and forced her to murder the teenage victims. However, video footage of the crimes that surfaced later showed Homolka as a willing participant in the rape and killing of the teen girls.

“It’s upsetting,” said Tim Danson, lawyer for the families of Bernardo’s murder victims — 14-year-old Leslie Mahaffy and 15-year-old Kristen French. “Whenever the names Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo are appearing in the media, it’s upsetting for my clients.
