<article id="ra-body">Six young girls all from one family, ranging in age from 9 to 19, testified Thursday in a Pennsylvania rape trial that they had sex with a man they considered to be their husband.<br />
Prosecutors say Lee Donald Kaplan sexually assaulted six daughters of a couple who had &#8220;gifted&#8221; them to him because he helped them financially. Kaplan, 52, fathered two children by the oldest daughter, who&#8217;s now 19.<br />

<p>A 15-year-old girl said Kaplan began having sexual contact with her when she was 11 or 12, and said she believed that&#8217;s what husbands and wives do. A 9-year-old testified that Kaplan began molesting her when she was 7.<br />
&#8220;He told me not to tell anybody what he was doing,&#8221; the 9-year-old testified.<br />
The girls&#8217; parents got financial help from Kaplan after breaking from their Amish faith, according to investigators.<br />
A neighbor&#8217;s tip led authorities to search Kaplan&#8217;s Feasterville home last year. Police found Savilla and Daniel Stoltzfus&#8217; family, including the couple&#8217;s nine daughters and two grandchildren, living with Kaplan.</p>

<p>Prosecutors said Kaplan assisted the family and financially supported them as they withdrew from the Amish faith and lifestyle. In return, Kaplan was given several of the Stoltzfus daughters as gifts by the parents.<br />
The children have been living in Kaplan’s home for the last three to four years, prosecutors said.<br />
A report by the Bucks County District Attorney said, &#8220;Kaplan is accused of taking the Stoltzfuses&#8217; eldest daughter, 14 at the time, as his wife. He raped her repeatedly over a series of years, causing her to give birth to two children.<br />
Court testimony indicated Daniel Stoltzfus also offered his wife to Kaplan for sex, hoping that any resulting children would &#8220;strengthen&#8221; the Stoltzfus bloodline.<br />
The mother of the girls, Savilla Stoltzfus, testified she knew about the sexual activity involving Kaplan and the girls but believed it &#8220;could be a good thing.&#8221;<br />
&#8220;I always trusted him that whatever goes on is a good thing,&#8221; she had testified.<br />
She pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges last month, and her husband, David Stoltzfus, agreed to a no-contest plea.<br />

<p>Kaplan is on trial for rape, sexual assault and conspiracy. he denies the charges.<br />
During Wednesday&#8217;s opening statements, Deputy District Attorney Kate Kohler said that Kaplan &#8220;brainwashed&#8221; Savilla Stoltzfus and her family.<br />
&#8220;All they knew was life with the defendant as their leader, their preacher, their husband,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Six children became his victims. Six children became his sex toys.&#8221;<br />
Kaplan has been in jail since his arrest in June last year.<br />
In October 2016, Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub, announced 15 additional charges of sex abuse and rape against Kaplan. it took investigators four months to “gain the trust” of the girls, before they opened up and revealed the extent of the abuse Kaplan inflicted on them, Wintraub said.<br />
“Mr. Kaplan represented himself to the girls as a prophet from God,” Weintraub said at a news conference. “Now comes the time for Mr. Kaplan to be held accountable to the laws of mankind and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”<br />
Kaplan became a business partner with Daniel Stoltzfus and a friend of the family after the couple left the Amish church, according to investigators.<br />
He began preying on their oldest daughter, the 18-year-old when she was 10 in a bedroom of her family’s home, court records showed she told investigators.<br />
He began having sex with her when she turned 12, according to an arrest affidavit obtained <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20161101_DA__Kaplan_sexually_abused_6_girls_living_with_him_in_Bucks_home.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">by the Inquirer</a>. She moved into Kaplan’s home on Old Street Rd., 20 miles outside Philadelphia, when she was 14, and they had two children by the time she turned 18, the court documents showed.</p>

<p>The second girl, now 17, consummated her &#8216;marriage&#8217; with Kaplan when she turned 14 years old, according to investigators. The third sister, now 15, started having sex with him when she turned 11 years old, the court documents showed.<br />
Kaplan began having sex with the fourth sister, now 13, when she was 10 years old, investigators said. The fifth sister, who is 10 years old, did not describe rape but told investigators he sexually assaulted her. The sixth sister, an 8-year-old girl, said he had violated her anally.<br />
“Kaplan would have ‘dreams’ about them becoming his wives and Kaplan stated that this was what God wanted,” the second-oldest daughter told investigators, according to the affidavit.<br />
Authorities say Daniel Stoltzfus admitted he and his wife gave their then-14-year-old daughter to Kaplan because he had given them money.<br />
Savilla Stoltzfus reportedly told detectives that they knew Kaplan was having sex with their daughter, who is now 18 and has given birth to two children, a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old.</p>

<p>The parents said that the other nine children in the house, eight of whom were ages 17, 15, 13, 10, 8, 7, 5 and 3, were also their daughters, the <a href="http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20160623_Attorney_for_accused_mom_in_Bucks_case___Hold_judgment_.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Philadelphia Inquirer</a> reported.<br />
Daniel Stoltzfus, 43, was charged with statutory sexual assault, criminal conspiracy, and endangering the welfare of children. His wife Savilla Stoltzfus, 42, was charged with endangering the welfare of children in connection with their role in the alleged multiple instances of child sex abuse of their daughters by Lee Kaplan.<br />
Savilla Stoltzfus, 43, pled guilty to one count of child endangerment on April 6.<br />
Her husband, Daniel Stoltzfus, 44, entered a no-contest plea on the same charge after they were charged with giving some of their daughters as gifts to their 52-year-old male friend. The couple could receive sentences of up to seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000.</p>
