<div class="article-content--body-text">A married 57-year-old brain surgeon charged with sexually abusing children sought to impregnate women to create more victims and had been suspected of molesting children for two decades, Northern California prosecutors said Monday.<br />
Prosecutors made the allegations as they unsuccessfully sought to deny Dr. James Kohut bail while he awaits trial on 11 charges related to child sex abuse.<br />
Several women who had relationships with Kohut said the doctor wanted to have children with them to create &#8221; &#8216;taboo&#8217; families where the parents raise their children sexually,&#8221; Assistant District Attorney Steven Moore said in court documents.<br />
Moore said women identified in the documents only by their initials said Kohut &#8220;has a specific desire to have sex with a mother and a daughter.&#8221; Moore also wrote that Kohut pressured the women to find children for him to abuse. Although there&#8217;s no suggestion in the court papers filed Thursday that Kohut, a father-of-two, sexually abused his own children.</div>

<div class="article-content--body-text">The <a href="http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/article/NE/20170616/NEWS/170619747">Santa Cruz Sentinel</a> first reported that the judge on Monday said Kohut was entitled to bail and ordered a report about his finances to help determine an amount. Kohut was ordered back to court June 28 to set a bail figure.<br />
Moore also said that the FBI, Australian federal police, the Santa Cruz County sheriff&#8217;s department and Seaside police department had previously investigated Kohut since 1997, but he has never been charged.<br />
The case began last month when according to <a href="http://www.ksbw.com/article/santa-cruz-da-files-more-child-sex-charges-against-neurosurgeon/9868187">kswb</a>, the husband of Rashel Brandon gave a video recording to Watsonville police allegedly showing his wife and another nurse, Emily Stephens, sexually abusing children.<br />
The two women Dominican Hospital nurse Rashel Melina Brandon, 42, of Watsonville, and Emily Joy Stephens, 29, of Pima County, Arizona are also charged along with james Kohut in the child sex abuse case.<br />
The most recent rape that the doctor and two women committed together allegedly, happened on May 9. The victims &#8212; two boys and one girl &#8212; are less than 10 years old, according to District Attorney Jeff Rosell.</p>

<div class="article-content--body-text">Kohut and Brandon worked together at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. Police arrested Brandon first and seized a cellphone with video allegedly showing abuse as well as three allegedly incriminating photos, according to court papers filed Thursday by Kohut&#8217;s attorney Jay Rorty.<br />
In the current case, Kohut faces 11 felonies with all the charges linked to sodomy, lewd acts with children and other forced offenses.<br />
The allegations started with three victims, but the Watsonville Police Department’s investigation has uncovered information about the possibility of up to seven victims.<br />
It is unclear whether the new information released Friday will unveil additional child victims.<br />
The<a href="http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/article/NE/20170616/NEWS/170619747"> santacruz sentinel reports</a> that from Jan. 1, 2016, to May 15, Kohut allegedly had sex, including oral, with a boy and girl younger than 10. During that time, Kohut also is accused of committing forced lewd acts on a boy younger than 14.<br />
On May 9, Kohut, Brandon and Stephens also allegedly committed forced sexual acts with three boys younger than 14, one was 3 years old and a girl younger than 14, according to court documents.</p>

<p>On Thursday, the charges ware amended to include the latest charge of lewd acts upon a child that alleges Kohut had sex with a Louisiana girl younger than 14 sometime between January 2003 and December 2005, according to an amended complaint filed Thursday.<br />
“He has a specific desire to have sex with a mother and a daughter,” Moore wrote. “He then wants to impregnate the daughter and raise the child sexually in the ‘taboo’ family lifestyle.”<br />
Assistant District Attorney Stephen Moore told the court that : “Since 1997, [kohut] has been using the internet to find new women to participate in a ‘taboo family,’ Moore said.<br />
Another woman who reported in 2001 that she found Kohut multiple online relationships, alleged that all of his sexual requests of these were the same &#8211; He wanted bestiality, incest and a ‘sexual family.’<br />
In one no less shocking revelation according to ADA Moore, Kohut told a Vermont woman about a relationship he had with a Florida woman and her children.<br />
“He admitted that he had been in a relationship with a woman in Florida who had a 13-year-old and 4-year-old child,” ADA Moore said.<br />
“He admitted that he had sex in front of those children and fondled the 13-year-old. &#8230; He would ask (the Florida woman) to recruit friends for him and he wanted her to call him ‘daddy.’”</p>

Rashel Brandon was arrested on May 9 at a home in Watsonville. She pleaded not guilty. The ICU staff nurse at Dominican Hospital, and a mother of two sons filed for divorce from her husband in April and is seeking custody of her children.<br />
Emily Stephens was arrested May 12 in Arizona, and she is expected to be extradited from Pima County Jail to the Santa Cruz jail.<br />
