<p>A woman in Columbus, Ohio, who was left bed-ridden after a gruesome attack in 2015 has died, her family says.<br />
, <a href="http://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/family-woman-set-on-fire-by-ex-boyfriend-in-2015-has-died" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABC 6</a> reported that Judy Malinowski who died at the age of 33, became a victim of a violent attack at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Michael Slager, who set her on fire after a fight at a gas station. The attack took place in August 2015.<br />
Malinowski received at least 52 post-attack surgeries.<br />
43-year-old Slager from Gahanna, Ohio who was accused of throwing gasoline on his girlfriend and setting her on fire behind an Ohio gas station was later convicted of the crime.<br />
After pleading no contest the judge found Slager guilty of aggravated arson, felonious assault and possession of criminal tools. He was sentenced to serve 11 years in prison.</p>

<p>After seeing the story, State Representative Jim Hughes <a href="http://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/second-hearing-held-for-judys-law" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>introduced legislation</strong></a> to further punish in cases like Malinowski&#8217;s that maim or disfigure. Legislators are currently looking over a bill in the state Senate to add at least six years of jail time for anyone who uses an accelerant where the victim is permanently disfigured or disabled.</p>

<p>The Senate is expected to vote on the bill soon after it was unanimously approved by the House in May.<br />
After the attack, Malinowski endured at least 52 surgeries. Prior to one of her operations last December, <a href="http://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/burn-victim-shares-her-story-to-prompt-stiffer-penalties-on-arsons" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Malinowski struggled to speak to ABC 6/FOX 28</a> as she spoke about her suffering and desire to see &#8220;Judy&#8217;s law&#8221; through to help prevent others from a situation like hers.<br />
The Franklin County Prosecutor&#8217;s Office has said it will seek murder charges against Michael Slager should Malinowski die from her injuries.</p>
