<article id="ra-body">A judge has ordered a mentally ill Indiana woman to undergo treatment before she serves a 130-year sentence for smothering her two children to death.<br />
Amber Pasztor, 30, told an Elkhart County judge she was sorry as she pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the deaths of 7-year-old Liliana Hernandez and 6-year-old Rene Pasztor.<br />
On Sept. 26, Pasztor took her children from their custodial grandparents’ home near Fort Wayne, prompting police to issue an Amber Alert.<br />
She smothered them inside a stolen car, and later showed their bodies to police.<br />
Police had issued an Amber Alert earlier in the day for siblings Liliana Hernandez and Rene Pasztor, saying they were &#8220;believed to be in extreme danger.&#8221;<br />
And on June 27, cops said they found the body of a man they believe was an acquaintance of the children&#8217;s mother.<br />
In an interview with a local TV station <a href="http://wane.com/2016/10/10/jailhouse-interview-amber-pasztor-admits-to-killing-children/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WANE-TV</a>, Amber Pasztor admitted first time that she killed her children.<br />
After kidnapping her children during a custody dispute, she said, the issuance of the Amber Alert seeking the children triggered her urge to smother them to death.<br />
On learning that police were in search of the children, Pasztor said she gave her two kids a choice after learning an emergency alert: “They can live traumatized lives, like their mom, or they can go to heaven with God and be better off,” Pasztor told WANE-TV.<br />

<p>She told police she did it to “keep them safe” and “usher them onto heaven,” <a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/midwest/indiana/ct-indiana-mother-child-deaths-20170629-story.html">Fox59</a> reported.<br />
“I do believe you’re sorry,” Judge Michael Christofeno told Pasztor. “But that unfortunately does not undo this horrific act,” he said.<br />
The judge ruled that Pasztor, who is bipolar and schizophrenic, was competent to stand trial.<br />
Pasztor is also charged in the fatal September shooting of former neighbor, 66-year-old Frank Macomber, whose car Pasztor’s children’s bodies were found in.<br />

<p>Admitting both kids fought back “a little bit,” the killer mom said: “He [Rene] wanted to go with her,” Pasztor said, rocking back and forth slightly.<br />
“My kids are in a better place. They’re in heaven now,” she added. “They don’t have no worries no more.”<br />
Judge Christofeno said the defendant’s pattern of alcohol consumption, marijuana and synthetic marijuana use factored into his sentencing decision.</p>

<p>Defense lawyer Peter Soldato said his client’s substance use, combined with her mental illness, led her to smother her children to death.<br />
“Essentially, she poisoned herself over the course of two years,” Soldato said.<br />
Pasztor will receive mental health treatment as part of her plea agreement.</p>
