‘Temper driven’ Indiana teen, jailed 100 years – Nickalas Kedrowitz, now 17, was convicted for smothering two of his siblings aged 2 and 11 months, ‘to free them from Satan and hell’, when he was 13 years old
Nickalas Kedrowitz was 13 when he murdered his 23-month-old half-sister Desiree McCartney and his 11-month-old stepbrother Nathaniel Ritz at their home in mid-2017
The attacks were two months apart and both children were suffocated while in his care at home in Osgood, about 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis
Kedrowitz killed Desiree in May 2017 and Nathaniel in July 2017 and both children were found unresponsive at the family’s home
He was convicted of both murders in August 2021, after the court rejected his insanity plea and tried him as an adult
Judge ordered 50-year prison terms for each death, to be served consecutively
Desiree was found dead after Kedreowitz had been left to look after the toddler. He told his mother the little girl ‘wasn’t breathing right’
On July 20 that year Kedreowitz was putting Nathaniel to bed and claimed the child stopped moving
A month and half later Desiree’s mom tipped off police that he’d just mutilated his aunt’s cat and left it for dead, because it scratched him
Kedrowitz admitted during psychological evaluation that he was ‘freeing his siblings from Satan and hell’
He later told police that he’d used a towel and blanket to smother his infant siblings to “set them free from this hell”

An Indiana teen tried as an adult, will spend a century behind bars after he was to two consecutive 50 year prison sentences after he was convicted of suffocating two of his younger siblings to ‘free them from Satan and hell’.
Nickalas Kedrowitz, now 17, was 13 when he murdered his 23-month-old half-sister Desiree McCartney and his 11-month-old stepbrother Nathaniel Ritz.
He was convicted in August last year on two counts of murder. The judge ordered 50-year prison terms for each death to be served one after the other.
Kedrowitz killed Desiree in May 2017 and Nathaniel in July 2017 and both children were found unresponsive at the family’s home in Osgood, about 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel said Kedrowitz told detectives that he was ‘freeing his siblings from hell.’
‘This wasn’t some sort of heat of passion, one killing and then minutes or hours or even days later, we´re talking months here, so we think that the consecutive part of the sentence was warranted and appropriate in this circumstance,’ Hertel told reporters after the sentencing hearing.
The judge ordered that Kedrowitz’s case be handled in adult court despite his attorney´s arguments that the teen has untreated mental health problems.

Desiree was found dead after Kedreowitz had been left to look after the toddler. He told his mother the little girl ‘wasn’t breathing right’ according to Fox 19.
On July 20 that year Kedrowitz was putting Nathaniel to bed and claimed the child stopped moving.
About a month and a half after Nathaniel’s death, Desiree’s mother, Christina McCartney, called an Indiana State Police detective. She wanted him to be aware of a recent incident involving Kedrowitz.
She told police that Kedrowitz had “mutilated a kitten to the point of almost killing it” at his aunt’s and uncle’s home, according to court documents.
It scratched him, and he got upset and squeezed the animal.
His aunt and uncle decided to take the kitten somewhere and kill it because it was suffering. Kedrowitz asked if he could go with them to “see the kitten’s brains splatter everywhere,” according to court documents.

When copse interviewed Kedrowitz’s aunt, Candice Barker, one week after the incident, she revealed her nephew was failing all of his classes and had been in fights at school, often doesn’t tell the truth, is self-centered, has been on medication for depression and has a temper, she said.
According to court documents, Kedrowitz’s temper reminded Barker of the comic character, Hulk.
The suspect subsequently underwent underwent psychological evaluations. Among the revelations police got from Dr. Linda McIntire’s report was Kedrowitz making multiple statements about “freeing his siblings from Satan and Hell,” and violent themes involving “large knives and burning fire.”
Kedrowitz reportedly, said he was ‘freeing his siblings from Satan an hell’ during a psychological evaluation. He went on to admit to police that he’d used a towel and blanket to smother his infant siblings to “set them free from this hell.”
