<article id="ra-body">A Washington jury found a 65-year-old transgender woman guilty of murdering three women who worked as prostitutes decades after she committed the crime.<br />
Donna Perry was convicted on three counts of first-degree murder in the 1990 slayings of Yolanda Sapp, 26, Nickie Lowe, 34, and 38-year-old Kathy Brisbois, <a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/news/donna-perry-transgender-woman-murder-prostitutes-washington/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS News</a> reported. All three women were shot and killed during a four month span more than 25 years ago.</p>

<p>The bodies of Yolanda Sapp, Kathleen Brisbois and Nickie Lowe were found naked along the Spokane River, each with a gunshot wound. Police say DNA evidence has connected Donna Perry to the crime. Despite DNA linkage,<br />
Perry&#8217;s novel defense was that it wasn&#8217;t her who killed the women but her violent male alter ego, Douglas.<br />
The 62-year-old, who underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2000, allegedly told police in 2012 that her decision to change from Douglas to Donna was done in part &#8220;as a permanent way to control violence,&#8221; KXLY reported.In an interview with detectives in 2012, she allegedly said that she didn&#8217;t know what Douglas Perry may have done: &#8220;I&#8217;m not going to admit I killed anybody, I didn&#8217;t. Donna has killed nobody,&#8221; she said.</p>

<p>Over the course of her trial, Perry insisted, a man named Douglas at the time, murdered the women because she was jealous over their ability to have children. But Prosecutors said the suspect used her gender reassignment surgery in 2000 as a means to avoid suspicion in the case.<br />
“She gelded herself like you would a farm animal,” Deputy Prosecutor Sharon Hedlund said during closing arguments.<br />
Lawyers also said the bodies were thrown away as if they were trash near the Spokane River. The women were discovered either entirely naked or with their genitals exposed, <a href="http://www.krem.com/news/crime/jury-deliberates-in-transgender-woman-s-murder-trial/452584356" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KREM-TV</a> reported.<br />
Their murders remained a mystery until Perry was convicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm in 2012. When her DNA was entered into the system, it linked her to the trio of bodies, according to the news station.</p>
