Doris Payne, the notorious 86-year-old jewel thief who has stolen about $2 million worth over the last six decades, has been arrested again.<br />
But this time, she’s not accused of shoplifting from a high-end store. Police say she stole $86.22 worth of goods Monday night from the Walmart on Chamblee Tucker Road in DeKalb County, according to a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.</p>

<p>Although the well-known jewel thief who reflected on her six-decade criminal career in a 2013 documentary has been deemed too ill to stand trial for an alleged 2015 theft, she has obviously remained active.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.myajc.com/news/crime--law/octogenarian-jewelry-thief-doris-payne-too-sick-for-trial-court-says/2bc6RcBp1dzRdnowyNtBIN/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Atlanta Journal-Constitution</a> reports that 86-year-old Doris Payne&#8217;s trial was scheduled to start Feb. 21, 2016 in connection with the theft of a pair of Christian Dior earrings from a Saks Fifth Avenue store, but the trial was on hold following an administrative order signed by a Fulton County Superior Court judge stating that the defense has demonstrated that Payne&#8217;s medical condition precludes the case from moving forward.<br />
Meanwhile, she went back to the queue of here waiting arraignments after her December arrest at a store in Atlanta&#8217;s Perimeter Mall.<br />
Meanwhile the career thief, who along with her family and friends discuss her life in the documentary <b><a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2131502/">“The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne.”</a></b>, was not done.<br />
In the documentary she openly discusses how she lifted pricey jewelry from countless jewelry stores around the world in an illicit career that has spanned six decades.<br />
Now in the twilight of her career, police in Durnwoody just outside Atlanta say the notorious 86-year-old jewel thief has struck again. on December 13, 2016 at a Von Maur department store. A police report says Payne put a $2,000 necklace in her back pocket and tried to leave the store.</p>

<p><span class="related-photo-caption">A store employee notified a Chamblee officer who was working in the store that Payne was shoplifting about 5 p.m., police said in the report.<br />
The employee told the officer that Payne grabbed items from the pharmacy, electronics and grocery departments, put them in a shopping cart and concealed some of them in her purse as well as a Walmart shopping bag.<br />
According to the report, Payne went to a checkout line, pulled more goods from the shopping cart and tried to hide them, too. All of the items were eventually returned to the store and Payne was arrested on a charge of theft by shoplifting, police said.<br />
Doris Payne, an international jewel thief who&#8217;s stolen about $2 million worth over the last six decades, says she tried to do right this time.<br />
The 86-year-old faces a bench warrant after missing a court date in DeKalb County on Monday. She told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she wasn’t able to go because of health issues.<br />
“I ain’t runnin’,” she said in a phone interview. “Medically, I was not able to go.”<br />
She’s been dealing with severe pain, trouble with balance and draining tests related to a lump in her neck.<br />
“It might be cancerous. It may not,” she said.<br />
Curiously when Payne was arrested last December for </span>concealing a $2,000 necklace in her back pocket and attempted to exit a store at a mall in Von Maur,” She was taken to the Chamblee jail, where police discovered she was wearing an electronic ankle monitor. She was released after posting her $15,000 bail.</p>
