A Colorado man was arrested in his son’s November 2012 death after blood stains, evidence and ominous conversations connected him to the grisly crime, authorities allege.
Mark Redwine, 55, was arrested Friday in Bellingham, Washington, where he was driving as a truck driver, following a grand jury indictment for second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
Dylan Redwine, 13, died the night he arrived for a court-ordered visit with his father Mark. At the time, Mark Redwine and his ex-wife Elaine were involved in a heated custody case regarding the boy.
When Dylan’s parents divorced, the ensuing custody battle was contentious, threw the 13-year-old into the maelstrom of fact baring fight. According to a grand jury indictment Dylan may have seen court papers that said unsavory things about his dad.
He had already confronted Mark about “compromising” photos he’d discovered, on a previous visit, father and son had fought.
Court documents reveal Dylan Redwine had no interest in going to Bayfield, Colo., for a court-ordered Thanksgiving holiday visit to see his father that November in 2012.
Subsequently, Dylan for months maintained that “he was upset with Mark Redwine, that he did not want to visit and was uncomfortable with Mark Redwine,” the indictment says.

Dylan had planned to visit a friend’s house at 6:30 the next morning, but he never showed.
Authorities later found Dylan’s blood in multiple locations in Mark Redwine’s living room, “including on the couch, the floor in front of the couch, the corner coffee table, on the floor beneath a rug, and a love seat,” according to the indictment. A K9 also picked up a cadaver scent in the home, as well as on Mark Redwine’s clothes and in the bed of his pickup truck.
Some of the boy’s remains were located in June 2013, up a mountain miles away from Redwine’s home. Hikers found his skull in a separate location in November 2015.
The skull showed injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, according to the indictment.
Arrested Friday, following years of speculation that he had killed his son, Mark Redwine was finally charged on Saturday with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The arrest followed a grand jury indictment on the charges.

On Saturday, following years of speculation that he had killed his son, Mark Redwine was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The arrest followed a grand jury indictment on the charges.
Redwine previously denied any involvement in his son’s death. He said Dylan went missing while walking to a friend’s house six miles away – a claim backed up by Redwine’s mail carrier, who claimed to have seen two boys walking on the road.
But the indictment details evidence that suggested a violent death in Redwine’s living room.
Redwine’s other ex-wife, Betsy Horvath, was more explicit, the court document says. She “voiced concern that Mark Redwine may have hurt Dylan Redwine” and told investigators that her ex-husband told her if he ever had to get rid of a body, he’d leave it in the mountains near his house.

Mark Redwine mentioned blunt force trauma during a conversation with his half-brother Brandon Redwine and “discussed how investigators would have to find the rest of the body,” including the skull, before they could determine if this was the cause of death, authorities wrote.
The statement was more poignant when Betsy Horvath revealed the he’d told her that he would “kill the kids before he let her [Elaine] have them.”
Mark Redwine, who has denied for years that he had a role in his son’s death, was named a person of interest in the case in August 2015.
Months after their son disappeared, Mark and Elaine Hall appeared on “Dr. Phil.”
“I really have a concern that you hurt him, and his bones are out there just laying, and you don’t even care,” Hall told her ex-husband through tears.
Mark Redwine was adamant about his innocence during the TV appearance.
“I wouldn’t hurt him,” he told his ex. “What kind of mother are you to even think that I was even capable of doing something like that?”
At the time, Mark Redwine said he believed his son was abducted while walking to his friend’s house. He initially agreed to take a Polygraph test, but later backed out despite urging from show host Dr. Phil McGraw.
