<p>Tragedy continues to stalk the family of slain Vegas cop, Charleston Hartfield despite the heartfelt funeral notes he left on his computer enjoining them not to mourn his passing. Hartfield&#8217;s instructions ahead of time and found by his wife Anne read, “If you’re reading this, then I’ve been called home”.<br />
The Las Vegas police officer killed during the mass shooting on Route 91, on Oct. 1. by the Las Vegas killer, Stephen Paddock that killed 59 and left another 80 injured.<br />
Unfortunately, his mother suffered a heart attack hours after her son’s funeral on Oct. 21, and died two days later.<br />
According to a <a href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-las-vegas/mother-dies-days-after-funeral-of-cop-killed-in-las-vegas-shooting/">Las Vegas Review-Journal</a> report, Sheryl Stiles, 52, was in the town for the Friday funeral of her son Charleston Hartfield, when she had a heart attack while riding a hotel escalator and fell off, sustaining brain injuries. Her family took her off life support on Sunday.</p>

<p>Her family said they believe she died from a broken heart. Speaking to<a href="http://www.fox5vegas.com/story/36675029/fallen-officer-hartfields-mother-dies-two-days-after-his-funeral">Fox 5 Vegas</a>, Stile&#8217;s cousin Cecil Ralston echoed the shock and pain of the family: “No one expected anything like this to happen,” Ralston said. “It’s kind of devastating.”<br />
“I talked to the chaplain of Metro,”Ralston told Fox.<br />
“He told me she kept saying ‘Oh I want to stay, I want to be with Charleston,’ that she wanted to die.”<br />
The Las Vegas police officer and U.S. Army veteran who was among 58 people killed in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history provided instructions ahead of time for those at his memorial not to mourn, a pastor told the crowd at his funeral on Friday.<br />
“If you’re reading this, then I’ve been called home,” said the computer file that Charleston Hartfield began about a year ago.<br />
The pastor conducting the service, Mike Bodine, said it was found by Hartfield’s wife, Veronica, following his death Oct 1. Along with heartfelt messages to his family and instructions not to wear black and to play Johnny Cash and Nina Simone songs.</p>

<p>Charleston Hartfield at 34 had accumulated 17 years of military service in Iraq and as part of the Nevada Guard and over 2,000 people attended his funeral.<br />
He was posthumously promoted to first sergeant in the Army Reserve.<br />
Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo called described the 11-year police veteran, a “remarkable officer” killed by “an unremarkable person.”<br />
Lombardo said Hartfield ’s death was considered on-duty because he tried to shield, protect and shepherd people in a concert crowd from danger<br />
