<div>The Nevada father of a gay teen allegedly shot and killed him over his sexual orientation, according to reports.</div>

<p>According to <a href="http://news3lv.com/news/local/he-would-rather-have-a-dead-son-than-a-gay-son-former-foster-mom-speaks-about-shooting">KSNV </a>, Giovanni Melton, 14, was gunned down by his father, Wendell Melton, after an argument Thursday, centered around the teen having a boyfriend.<br />
“He hated the fact that his son was gay,” Sonia Jones, the teen’s former foster mom, said. “I’m sure that inside of his mind, he would rather have a dead son than a gay son.”<br />
Jones said that the 53-year-old dad had caught the teen with his boyfriend before and “pulled out a gun on him.”<br />
Police said they received a report Thursday about a domestic disturbance at a Henderson apartment.</p>

<p>Giovanni was a student at Coronado High School. Jones says a beautiful life was taken away because of ignorance.<br />
Police said they received a report Thursday about a domestic disturbance at a Henderson apartment.<br />
Responding detectives found the 14-year-old was in critical condition. Giovanni Melton was initially transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena, in critical condition. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries&#8230;<br />
Police said the teen lived alone at the apartment where he was fatally shot.</p>

<p>A preliminary investigation revealed that a domestic disturbance had taken place between Melton and his juvenile son when a firearm was discharged, striking the juvenile.<br />
Henderson Police believe the senior Melton discharged a firearm that fatally struck his son. He was taken into custody Friday at Henderson Detention Center.<br />
He has been charged with open murder, child abuse and prohibited person possessing a firearm.</p>
