Adam Matos, 32, of Hudson, may face the death penalty after he was convicted of the brutal quadruple murder on Thursday.
Matos is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend Megan Brown, her new boyfriend, Nick Leonard, and her parents, Margaret and Gregory Brown in 2014, not long after the Browns moved into a Hudson home.
The body of Megan, 27, was found dead on top of a hill in Pasco County, alongside her parents, Margaret and Greg Brown, both 52, and her new boyfriend, 37-year-old Nicholas Leonard.

Adam Matos, confessed in court Wednesday to killing his ex-girlfriend, Megan Brown; her parents, Margaret and Gregory Brown and her new boyfriend, Nick Leonard.
After killing the four, Matos lived in their Hudson home for several days, ordering pizza and selling their dogs on CraigsList in 2014, he said.
Matos also told the court that after the murders, he went out one night and got drunk in a bar with one of the next-door neighbors.
He later took the bodies to a nearby hill and stacked them on top of each other and then fled to Tampa with his 4-year-old son.
Matos was arrested on September 5, 2014, at a Tampa Bay area hotel with his missing four-year-old autistic son, Ismael Tristan Santisteban.
The suspect sat emotionless as the verdict was read out on Thursday while the victim’s family wept openly, in court.
‘The worst part is over,’ Leonard’s mother, Paula Rystrom, told the Tampa Bay Times.

Matos had denied murdering his ex and her family, as well as her new partner, and refuted a police report that stated he had threatened Megan Brown with a knife on August 28, the last day anyone had heard from her. He offered up his own theory of what happened, claiming a woman was stalking Brown and sending her threatening letters.
The case came to a head on Thursday when in dramatic fashion the suspect admitted to the murders in court.
He said a combination of self-defense and ‘paranoia’ drove him to kill the family of his ex, and had left his four-year-old son, who has autism, alone at the murder scene when he went to buy a shovel to bury the bodies.

The sentencing phase begins Monday. The state plans to seek the death penalty, else Matos could spend the rest of his life behind bars. A jury must reach a unanimous decision for a death penalty to be imposed.
‘Either way his life is over,’ said Leonard’s father, Daniel Leonard after the trial, ‘and that’s basically all we can really ask for, to keep him off the streets, because obviously he was not a very good person.’
