then 27&comma; was kept in a medically induced coma for more than four weeks as doctors at New York-Presbyterian&sol;Weill Cornell Medical Center performed surgery after surgery in a bid to save his life&period; The price he paid to stay alive was the amputation of his right leg&period; This was followed by five arduous months in rehabilitation&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He spent those months alongside another patient in rehab&comma; firefighter Matt Long&comma; who was run over by a bus&period; in December 2005&comma; a few months after Lee’s accident on Sept&period; 12&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;A charter bus knocked Long off a bicycle and he was dragged underneath the vehicle&period; When it was done&comma; first responders found the 39-year-old fireman tangled in the frame of his bike&comma; with multiple broken bones and internal injuries&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Like Lee&comma; he also had to undergo emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;His injuries were so severe doctors gave him a 1&percnt; chance of survival&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;At -Presbyterian&sol;Weill Cornell Medical Center Long was going through much of the same therapy as Lee&comma; helped along by Dr&period; Dean Lorich&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;He helped the men  to relearn how to walk and reclaim their lives&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Dr Lorich was also the doctor who treated U2 singer Bono after a cycling accident in Central Park in 2014&period; Bono reportedly lost control of his bicycle when he swerved to avoid another cyclist and landed on his face&comma; fracturing his eye socket&comma; shoulder and elbow&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;EMTs declared Lorich dead upon arrival&period;
